extra-‐curricular activities. I obtained 4 A-‐level qualifications whilst contributing to the school orchestra, drama
department, volunteering at the local youth club and running the local radio station. Whilst at university, I have split
my time between studies, and alternative roles as the student and FODI (Festival of Design and Innovation)
representatives for my course.

Professions involving multimedia, design, development and audio engineering appeal to me most.
Previous Employment
Junior Activities Leader, Billingshurst Leisure Centre
- (2009- Present)
Employed as part time staff during school holidays. I work as part of small team who are responsible for around 25 children
from 8am till 6pm. Together we have the task of keeping the children occupied by creating activities for them, this requires use
of initiative to ensure the children are not bored by the same activities each day. As part of the day we take the children
swimming in a public swimming pool, this requires me to be alert, and responsible at all times.
Student Caller – Bournemouth University Annual Fund
- (2008 – 2009)
Employed by Bournemouth University as an Annual Fund student caller. The Annual fund is a telephone campaign with the
aim of raising donations from alumni of the university. My job as a student caller was to be polite, and professional when
speaking to alumni. I believe this job really helped to enhance my communication skills.
Skate Guard – Weald Recreation Centre / Private Gardening Work
- (2003 – 2008)
Employed as Skate Guard, responsible for young peoples safety whilst on roller skates. Involved hiring skates out, dealing with
members of the public in a responsible and polite fashion whilst keeping alert for any incidents on the skate floor. Worked as
part of a team to ensure the safety of the customers. Throughout this time I was also employed as Odd Jobs boy. I undertook
various works involving the use of complex machinery such as petrol hedge trimmers, strimmers, and mowers responsibly.
Other Information
- Dissertation Project
Design and development of an iPhone application capable of capturing the impulse response of a given room or environment.
Work involved following the waterfall development model from initial conception of idea, through several stages of
development, testing, and release of the software. The application involved designing and modeling advanced algorithms such
as time domain convolution and Fourier transforms, before implementing within the Objective-‐C language on the mobile
platform.
- BBC Local Radio Station
Throughout my time studying at university I have been involved with BBC Sussex and Surrey radio stations, working alongside
the engineering team voluntarily in order to gain knowledge and experience in the field. Through this experience I have been
involved in day-‐to-‐day maintenance of studio computers and equipment, as well as helping plain and run live on-‐site
broadcasts through both ISDN and Satellite connections.

Sam Harman (BSc Hons) – Curriculum Vitae
- Millennium Volunteer & Duke of Edinburgh Award
I currently hold the certificate for 200 hours worth of volunteering; I obtained this in my local youth club. This involved
working once a week, and putting on discos, and club nights through out term time for the young people to come to. I used this
volunteering work to build up my self-‐confidence and also helped to pass on technical knowledge by running DJ and Lighting
workshops for young people. In addition to this I have completed my Bronze duke of Edinburgh award.
- Local Radio Stations
For the past 3 years I have been running the local radio station from my home village. This is run through the local school but
is run by students. As I have left the school I am no longer involved, but I helped build the station up to it’s professional
standard, managing both the technical aspects and presenting live shows. It was my job to ensure everything broadcast over
the internet, and FM radio waves for one week a year, was of the highest standard possible. I was managing a team of over 30
students, from year 7’s to year 13’s. This involves a good standard of English and requires very good communication skills,
both within the team and on the air. More recently I have left The Weald School and am now working voluntarily as a
presenter on a local radio station for unsigned bands and artists whilst continuing to develop my skills.
- Youth Opportunities Fund
The youth opportunities fund is a government scheme that gives money to young people with the purpose of enabling them to
run certain projects. I have applied for and received over £12,000 for various projects in my local community, including the
aforementioned radio station and new lighting and DJ systems for the local youth club.
-‐ Creative Audio Technology Pioneer
I am the developer of an innovative new synthesizer (Twinthesis), which aims to sonify the data from the popular web service
Twitter. Each tweet can contribute to the sound of the synthesizer, and the content of the tweet has a direct result on the
sound / visuals produced for the performance. This is one of the first examples of social media interaction through synthesis,
and my work has received attention worldwide, and has been featured on prominent web blogs such as Engadget, and
TheNextWeb. Additional has been reported by BBC Radio 4, and The Telegraph, as well as local BBC Radio Stations.
- Personal Hobbies
I enjoy skiing once a year in the French alps. I also enjoy reading, and playing the piano and drums. However, my main hobby
is my profession, audio engineering and software development.
