SATURDAY, APRIL 27TH “OUR CATHOLIC HERITAGE” PILGRIMAGE IN THE YEAR OF FAITH. We invite you to a special “Our Catholic Heritage” trip on April 27, 2013. We will make a pilgrimage to several churches in downtown Chicago famous from their beauty and historical importance (St. Hyacinth, St. John Cantius, St. Mary of the Angels, The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompey…). The trip includes lunch at a Polish restaurant known to serve some of the best Polish foods in the Chicagoland area. The pilgrimage will be guided by Fr. Mark Jurzyk, Cathedral of St. Raymond, and will be connected with the possibility of gaining the plenary indulgence in connection with the Year of Faith. The pilgrimage is for all ages. Our trip will begin at 8:45 a.m, (after 8 a.m. Mass) and conclude around 3 pm. Total cost including lunch and transportation is $35 ($25 for children and youth). MEN’S DISCERNMENT GROUP – All men age 17 and older are welcome to our Men’s Discernment Group. We will be using the book “To Save A Thousand Souls” by Fr. Brett Brannen to discuss relevant topics to discern a priestly vocation. Books will be provided for those who do not already have one. These meetings will take place at the John Paul II House, 430 N. The evening begins at 6pm and ends by 8pm. Participants will have the chance to have dinner with Bishop Conlon and Fr. As a climax to a prayer that is continually offered throughout the Church, it affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that concerns vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life. While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male and female, contemplative and apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life, in the particular sense of mission "ad gentes". CATHOLIC STEWARDSHIP In today’s Gospel reading Jesus is quite emphatic: “My sheep hear my voice…” Those who exercise good stewardship of their prayer lives realize that hearing or listening is fundamental to prayer. Prayer is a personal encounter with the Lord and requires dialogue. Some people never learn the art of listening. When we enter into a dialogue with someone we love we speak and we listen. Otherwise it can- not be a dialogue. This week let’s think about how we pray. Do we do all the talking and then get up and do something else? Or do we sit quietly, waiting for God’s voice to enter our hearts?
