SECTION VI: 287(g) ENFORCEMENT<br />
The table below provides statistical data in relation to the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Herndon</strong>’s<br />
Memorandum <strong>of</strong> Agreement (MOA) with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).<br />
A detainer is generally obtained when the investigation, or ICE authorization, calls for<br />
detention. Detainees are held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and<br />
eventually processed through the federal court system. Final disposition <strong>of</strong> these cases is<br />
under the purview <strong>of</strong> ICE.<br />

DECEMBER 18, <strong>2012</strong> PROMOTIONAL CEREMONY<br />
On <strong>December</strong> 18, <strong>2012</strong>, the <strong>Herndon</strong> <strong>Police</strong> Department promoted eight (8)<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficers in a historical promotional ceremony. The event was the largest one time<br />
promotional ceremony to date in the 133 year history <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Herndon</strong> <strong>Police</strong> Department.<br />
The police department, under the leadership <strong>of</strong> Chief <strong>of</strong> <strong>Police</strong> Colonel Maggie DeBoard,<br />
is preparing for the future by restructuring the corporals career development program<br />
from an appointment to a permanent promotion due in part to pending future retirements<br />
and attrition.<br />
All <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>ficers underwent a rigorous promotional process to include their<br />
performance evaluations, an assessment center, and a written process. As a result <strong>of</strong> the<br />
process, two (2) Corporals were promoted to the rank <strong>of</strong> Sergeant and six (6) <strong>of</strong>ficers<br />
were promoted to the rank <strong>of</strong> Corporal.<br />
