Recommendations with regard to Murphy Parkway Extension
• Alignment of Murphy Parkway to “T” into South Liberty Street
pursuant to their preferred alternative Figure 2.
• Provide northbound left turn lane on South Liberty Street.
• Provide signalization for safe pathway connections and
crosswalks.
• Monitor traffic volumes on residential streets west of Murphy
Parkway after connection and, as necessary, later install traffic
calming measures using best engineering practices.

City Council asked to review both 4-Corners Intersection
and Murphy Parkway Extension in 2005
MS Consultants Study – Other Recommendations
• Widen Four-Corners Intersection First.
• Review Ordinance 2001-19 to see if the requirements within
it are still applicable.
• Connect Murphy Parkway to Liberty Street as shown.
• Widen Powell Road from Murphy Parkway to Sawmill Road
to provide five lanes and improve traffic signal at Murphy
Parkway and West Olentangy Street.

Pkwy. & Sawmill Road
• Pathway Connections
• Landscaping
• “Lechler Building” site improvements (Parking lot, etc.)
Two Alternative Alignments
Murphy Parkway Extension
Advantages to MS 2005 Proposed Alignment
- Retains the primary north/south through movements on Liberty Street.
- Does not encourage traffic to utilize Murphy Parkway (north/south
through movement remains on Liberty Road and requires a turning
movement to Murphy Parkway).
- Does not encourage traffic away from the downtown business district (by
retaining Liberty Street as the primary north/south corridor).
- Minimizes impact to adjacent neighborhoods.
- Traffic volumes on this alignment are not expected to exceed capacity of a
two-lane roadway.
