The Girls Academy is about helping our girls make
positive choices about who they want to be and
want they want to achieve in life. It aims to develop
confidence, self esteem and positive relationships to
give greater chances of staying on and succeeding at
school.
By providing strong Indigenous women role models,
exciting opportunities to extend our thinking, and
working with other agencies, our Girls Academy is
developing empowered girls who will become the
community leaders of the future.

Ready for Work
The Academy provides Year 10 students with
opportunities for Work Experience. In Year 11
and 12 the focus is on Work Placements and
Traineeships.
Role Models and Mentors
The Academy
The Fitzroy Valley Girls Academy is a unique program
developed specifically for girls aged 12-17 years.
The program focuses on mentoring, sport, outside
activities, workplace training, and leadership and
teamwork opportunities.
We provide:
Mentoring and Personal Support to assist
students through their educational experience and
beyond graduation.
Work Placement and Work Readiness that leads
to traineeships and employment.
Sports and Extra-Curricular Activities including
regional and interstate basketball and netball
competitions, fitness programs, cultural excursions,
sporting carnivals and specialised coaching in a range
of sports which act as motivation for girls to remain
engaged in education and training.
Leadership, Teamwork and Vision programs
and camps to improve the girls sense of belonging,
commitment, personal self esteem and self worth.
The Academy has been established to ensure
you have a rewarding educational experience
which will help you to a successful career and
future. Academy staff will help you achieve your
educational, sporting , personal and career goals.
Academy staff work with you as role models and
mentors and provide support and encouragement.
They can assist you in your school and personal
life. More importantly, they will offer you a
sympathetic and friendly ear. They are there to
support and assist you to achieve an exciting
future, so please use them at any time.
Mentoring is a large part of the Academy program.
Staff spend time developing relationships and
career plans with all students at the Academy.
Sports Program
Sport and physical activity form a major part of the
Academy during and after school.
You have access to coaches and leading sporting role
models who will help develop your game and skills
development in your chosen sport.
Activities include:
• Individual sports coaching, training and skill
development;
• Participation in sport, physical activities and
team games in local and regional areas as well
as attending interstate competitions and sporting
carnivals; and
• Opportunities for participation in a Basketball Tour
of the USA or in Australia.
