Welcome parents and students to school year 2012-2013! I am looking forward to this school year. With parent’s<br />

help and support, this will be an interesting and productive year! If there are any questions, please do not hesitate<br />

to call. In order to ensure that parents/students have read and understand the following information, please<br />

return the signed recognition form at the end of this packet.<br />

COURSE DESCRIPTION<br />

7 th grade Science will cover both life and physical science. The goal of the seventh grade science curriculum is to<br />

help students develop into competent and literate individuals in accordance with state science standards. This goal<br />

will be achieved by lecture, discussions, hands-on investigative discovery through experiments, real-life practical<br />

applications, and putting forth student’s best efforts. The following will be covered:<br />

CLASSROOM RULES AND EXPECTATIONS<br />

1. Always come to class prepared with all necessary supplies (sharpened pencil, agenda, notebook and paper)<br />

and on time, students will be counted as tardy when not in the class on time unless a signed note from<br />

other teachers, principals, hall monitors, and counselors is presented to the teacher.<br />

2. Respect everyone and the property of the school at all times. JCMS does not tolerate bullying.<br />

3. Food is limited to the cafeteria, unless for medical reasons. In this case, please let me know if your child<br />

has medical conditions that I need to accommodate for him to bring food.<br />

4. Positive attitude and willingness to learn is expected of the students.<br />

5. Missing work/experiments due to an excused absence will be graded for full credit; however it is the<br />

student’s responsibility to ask/arrange with the teacher for experiments to complete the missing<br />

assignment.<br />

QUIZZES<br />

Every quiz/test is announced two days prior, and review activities and review notes will be provided. However,<br />

pop quiz will not be announced. In case of an absence, a student will be given the same opportunity as above<br />

before students make up for the quiz/test.

100%– A+ 73.5% – C<br />

93.5% – A 69.5% – C-<br />

89.5% – A- 67.5%– D+<br />

87.5% – B+ 63.5% – D<br />

83.5% – B 59.5 %– D-<br />

79.5%- B- 50% F<br />

77.5% – C+<br />

MISSING ASSIGNMENTS NOTIFICATION<br />

Parents will be notified of student’s missing assignments at the end of each week via email. Also, you can access<br />

your student’s progress in my class through the parent portal in Infinite Campus. If you are new to <strong>USD</strong> <strong>475</strong> please<br />

visit the counseling center to have you set-up for the parent portal.<br />

END of 6-WEEK GRADING PERIOD –<br />

<br />

All assignments are due by the last day of the 6-week grading period unless a student was absent. If<br />

absent, the student gets 2 days for each day they were excused absent to make up their work.<br />

SCIENCE STATE TEST<br />

Important! There is a Science State Test sometime in April, a letter will be sent to you before the test to<br />

remind you and your student. The teacher get lots of surprise faces whenever the letter information is sent, so<br />

please keep Science in mind when it comes to State Tests.<br />
