Scotch-Weld Positioning Fabric
AF 3306-2
Introduction AF 3306-2 is a light-weight non-woven, synthetic cloth for use with Scotch-Weld Brand
Adhesive Films. In the manufacture of large bonded areas it is not always possible to
achieve perfect match of the component parts on the first attempt. Use of AF 3306-2
between the tacky adhesive and the component enables the fabricator to reposition the
parts without destroying the integrity of the adhesive film. AF 3306-2 also serves to vent off
entrapped air prior to use in large metal to metal bonding applications.
Important
notice to
purchaser
Under normal conditions, AF 3306-2 may be used in the following manner:
1. With the liner side up, place the adhesive film on the cleaned surface of one of the
components to be bonded.
2. After the adhesive film has been smoothed in place and is void of wrinkles and air
bubbles, remove the protective liner.
3. Cut a piece of AF 3306-2 slighty larger than the adhesive film and, with the use of a
slight amount of tension, place the AF 3306-2 on the exposed adhesive surface.
4. Smooth the AF 3306-2 using a minimum of pressure. (Note: Operators should be
provided with clean, cotton gloves for this operation)
5. Position the second component of the bond assembly. When the components are
exactly within register, pressure applied to the assembly will normally result in a
‘tacked’ assembly which can be handled during preparation for the adhesive cure
operation.
Storage of AF 3306-2 should present no undue problems as long as normal good shop
practices are followed. Care should be taken not to damage the roll edges so as to hinder
material removal and only a reasonable amount of stress should be applied to the cloth to
prevent tearing. Temperature of storage is not a problem, but care should be taken to
prevent the pick-up of moisture or solvents which might cause a reduction in the strength
properties of the cured adhesive films.
