General specification
OVERVIEW
Pace MDC1000 is a “head-end in a box”
providing digital video, broadband and
telephony to customers in cable TV networks,
multi-dwelling units, hotels and gated
communities. It is a convenient solution for
analog switch over, enabling digital Standard
and High Definition TV, Broadband and VoIP
(Telephony). Traditional cable networks are
supported with DVB-C and EuroDOCSIS/
DOCSIS output, and IPTV networks are
supported via both Ethernet and video over
EuroDOCSIS/DOCSIS.
The MDC1000 is a 19” 4U chassis-based
solution combining Smart Transmodulation with
IPTV capabilities and EuroDOCSIS/DOCSIS
support. The chassis houses six input modules
and three output modules: Current input
modules support DVB-S/S2, DVB-ASI and DVB-
T. Input modules can be mixed and matched as
desired. Output is QAM- and IP-based, and also
supports Video over EuroDOCSIS/DOCSIS
For customers that require a larger number of
input or output modules, or require a flexible
redundancy strategy, multiple MDC1000s can
be deployed together as a single unit.
As a DVB headend for coax networks, the
MDC1000 converts the input signals (DVB-S/S2,
DVB-ASI, DVB-T) to cable signals (DVB-C),
accessible by any standard DVB-C set-top box.
All service information is made available,
including full schedule data.
The MDC1000 can be configured to generate
DVB-S SI and, in conjunction with the Pace
MDS3T Satellite Adapter, allows the use of
standard DTH set-top boxes at the home,
thereby allowing satellite operators the same
benefits of using existing coaxial cabling.
As an IPTV headend for coax networks, the
MDC1000 converts the input signals to multicast
IP, creating an IPTV multicast network
accessible through a EuroDOCSIS/DOCSIS
cable modem by any standard IPTV set-top box.
As an IPTV headend for Ethernet networks, the
MDC1000 converts the input signals to multicast
IP, creating a small IPTV multicast network,
again accessible by any standard IPTV set-top
box.
As a Digital Video CMTS, all QAM output
channels can contain broadband internet
services sourced from either of the two
10/100/1000 base-T Ethernet ports. This
delivers services to EuroDOCSIS/DOCSIS
cable modems. The MDC1000 offers
configurable rate limiting and group contention
ratios for broadband services.
The MDC1000 connects to a back office
system via the gigabit Ethernet port to offer
Remote Network Management. Both SNMP and
SSH (Secure Shell) are supported, allowing full
remote configuration, diagnostics and
maintenance.
A detailed DVB/IPTV configuration engine is
provided for easy selection of DVB services. All
options are stored in a single configuration file,
which can be saved and uploaded via a Web
interface, thereby reducing on-site
configuration time. Delivery of the configuration
file can also be made via the broadcast DVB
input, where the configuration can be
individually targeted or group targeted to a
number of units.
The MDC1000 is simple to install and supports
an extensive, secure Web interface. A
red/amber/green graphical representation of
the MDC1000 quickly and easily identifies any
issues.
The MDC1000 is upgradable via the gigabit
Ethernet port or over-the-air DVB software
upgrade.
