Dorothy Mae Foster McCain Society Inductees – Development Vice President Maggie Young announced that the 2010-2011 Board of Directors had been inducted into the Mary Harriman Society and gifted each member with a gold JLLR pin decorated with a diamond. Julia Strickland was inducted as a Gold member. Silver inductees included: Katy Drake Barnhill, Kimberly Carley Bowman, Erin Calder Coffman, Kori Raymer Gordon, Sarah Leek Henry, Allison Lasiter Hester, Kim Logue, Mica Manning, Cindy Coates Miller, Jennifer Pierce, Stacy Riley, Valla Powell Steel, Wendie Brown Weare, and Nciole Sippial Williams. VOLUNTEER WITH RIVERFEST Riverfest is looking for Junior League of Little Rock members to volunteer at School Days at Riverfest, Friday, May 25th Riverfest has partnered with the Clinton Foundation and Heifer International to host a cultural fair for schools across the state where students will participate in activities highlighting Festivals Around the World. Our hopes are that the JLLR will be very present during this exciting event for Arkansas school children. Students will also receive a free 3 daypass to Riverfest in hopes that several children may be able to experience the festival for the very first time. Shift opportunities are: 8:00 am- 11:00 am 11:00 am- 2:00 pm. Please email Angie Johnson at chairman@riverfestarkansas.com or call 501-944-6500 to volunteer. As a volunteer, you will receive a free 3 day pass to Riverfest and a volunteer t-shirt. Learn It and Lead - Julia Strickland gave her farewell speech as JLLR President in which she thanked each Board Member individually as well as the JLLR Staff, Tamara Davis, Christy Copeland, and Joan Werh. Installation of 2011-2012 Board of Directors – Julia Strickland presided over the installation of the Board of Directors. From Vintage to Visionary – newly installed president Tisha Gribble announced her plans for the upcoming year which will coincide with the league’s 90th anniversary. Closing Prayer – Tisha Gribble lead the membership in the closing prayer. The meeting adjourned at 8:07 p.m. Training Please join us for the Spring Chair Training on May 22nd from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Hosted by the 2012-2013 Board of Directors and Training Committee, this training opportunity is for the Chair and Chair-Elect of each committee placed in the Fall and Spring. Call to Order - Meeting called to order at 6:33 p.m. by President Tisha Gribble. Tisha welcomed guests and “friends”. Mission Statement – Membership rises to Read & Reflect Approval of January Minutes- Brooke Hicks moved and Jamie Jones seconded the approval of the minutes. The membership unanimously approved the minutes. Check In!- Tisha Gribble encouraged all to use their smart phones and check-in on Facebook to win a prize. Members introduced themselves to their neighbors, and were then asked to politely turn off all phones. Vintage to Visionary Overview- President Tisha Gribble highlighted Riverfest as the Vintage Tidbit. Riverfest will be celebrating their 35th anniversary this year. 90th Anniversary Presentation- President Tisha Gribble presented Susan Altrui, with the Little Rock Zoo, a check for $2,600. Susan brought along Samson, one of the Zoo’s penguins. Samson was also accompanied by his keeper, Stephanie, who carried him into the room. The Membership loved seeing Samson. The $2,600 gift will be used to equip a small ADA accessible playground outside of Café Africa. Focus on the Future “VINTAGE TO VISIONARY” Jr. League LIVE! February 16, 2012 6:30 p.m. Development VP Mary- Margaret Marks presented the Focus Area Training Activity to the membership. This activity will help the membership understand the Focus Area process. Benecia Moore, Research & Development Chair- Elect presented the Focus Area Vote to the membership. (To see the language for proposals and reproposals presented and voted on this year, please email Jessical Lasley at jlasley@ innerplan.com Membership Moments- Jamie Jones introduced two groups of provisional. Brittney Garneau, Elizabeth Daters, Meradyth McKenzie and Sara Beth Leader each highlighted their spring project. The first event presented was a Parent’s Night Out at the Boys and Girls Club off 12th Street, to be held on March 10th from 6-9. The second event is a fundraiser for the Gaines House. They are a variety of bags, and 50% will go to their Spring Project., and the sale runs through the end of February. They are also raffling off box seats to Oaklawn. Membership VP Jamie Jones presented the SCAT Board Seat Proposal to the membership. A sample ballot was passed out for review. Jamie then presented the ballot for the Provisional to New Member Proposal. If it passes the vote in April, all provisional will be referred to as new members beginning in June. Training Director Becka Webb presented the Training Director proposal to the membership. The membership will vote by e-mail or ballot at the April LIVE! Meeting. Becka also announced that the April LIVE! Meeting will be held at the homes of sustainers and actives. Each house will feature a different training topic. Members will be able to register for the training session of their choice on Digital Cheetah. Servant Leader Recognition- Catherine Cole, Marketing VP, announced the Servant Leaders for the month of February. The Sustainer of the Month award was given to Ginger Blackmon who organized the Sustainer Book Drive and also served as the Miracle Ball Chair for Children’s Hospital. The Active of the Month award was presented to Kim Young who secured a donation for Bargain Boutique from the Friday Firm. It was announced that Kelli Stuckey one the Facebook contest for checking in at the JLLR Building before the meeting began at 6:30. Closing Prayer – Meeting Adjourned at 7:35pm. Social Destination – JLLR Ballroom, cocktails and light snacks will be available. Members and guests were urged to mingle after the meeting and check out the Kitchen renovation.
