Your Local Community Policing Letter for
Ashton Hayes, Duddon, Clotton, Hoofield,
Kelsall & Tarvin.
November – December 2011
Speeding
Due to frequent complaints from a number of local residents we continue to target speeding motorists through the
village of Ashton Hayes.
Police officers continue to issue fixed penalty notices which incur a £60 fine and 3 penalty points on driving licences
to speeding motorists who drive above the 30mph speed limit.
I am unhappy to report the majority of those caught speeding through Ashton Hayes live locally.
Ashton Hayes Village Hall
The village hall has been installed ‘Smart Water’ anti theft markings to the lead work and helps prevent / discourage
future thefts at the building.
Burglaries
Please be vigilant due to the following:-
An attempted burglary took place at a property on Church Road, Ashton Hayes on the evening of 22 nd November.
made good their escape unseen.
Bonfire Night
I am pleased to report a tranquil passing of bonfire night this year with no real problems reported in your village.
There were very few reports of anti social behaviour connected to bonfire night.
Theft of Pedal Cycles in the area
Due to a number of thefts of Pedal cycles in nearby Chester areas it has become apparent that the majority of bikes
reported as stolen to the Police do not have frame serial numbers recorded. It appears that stolen bikes are moving
between Merseyside, North Wales and Cheshire and if frame numbers are not recorded it makes it very difficult to
identify a stolen bike and ultimately return it to its rightful owner.
As Christmas is nearly upon us no doubt new bikes are on some people’s Christmas lists so I take this opportunity to
advise owners to register their bikes for FREE on a website called www.immobilise.com.
This website is recommended by numerous Police Forces in the UK, and is fully searchable by Officers 24 hours a
day.
Other items such as laptops, I-pods, I-pads, Camera's and mobile phones etc can be registered on
www.immobilise.com and as a result the website holding the information can be searched by Officers to enable
us to identify stolen property and get it returned to the rightful owner.
Cold callers at the door, what should you do?
Key points for Cold Calling advice:
- CWAC Trading Standards and Cheshire Police advise you say No to Doorstep Callers.
- Seek recommendations from friends and family, Always obtain 2 - 3 quotations before agreeing to work.
- Look for a trader who has a confirmed premise and contact details and consider inspecting their previous work.
- Look for a trader who is a member of a reputable trade association or is registered to an approved scheme or code
of conduct. A list of local traders who have agreed to abide by a Trading Standards code of practice can be found at
www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk under the Trading Standard pages.
Alternatively you can contact Age Concern Cheshire on 01606 881668 for a copy of the list.
The scheme is run by CWAC Trading Standards and Age Concern and is free to both consumers and businesses.
- Do not pay for work up front! Remember in most circumstances you have seven days to cancel a contract made at
your home.
- If you have not been given cancellation rights then in most circumstances the contract will be unenforceable and a
criminal offence may have been committed
