Crofter, shepherd, church official (sexton), seaman both in the Royal Navy (probably the Napoleonic Wars)
and the Merchant Navy. At the time of their marriage in 1807, Gilbert Basil was residing at Gardie, and
Elizabeth Arthur at Linkhouse. At time of 1841 census "Basiel Williamson", a crofter, and family,
the surname Williamson was still somewhat tentative during this time of switching over from the
patronymic naming system.
