Summary of the Young Family ReunionJuly 14, 2007Blackheath, Ontario1. Forty-eight descendants of Adam Young and Catherine Schremling attended this year’spotluck lunch and reunion. Family members attended from:- Ontario: Ancaster, Brantford, Burlington, Caledonia, Cayuga, Grimsby, Hamilton,Jarvis, London, Missisauga, Niagara Falls, St. Catherines, Simcoe, Stoney Creek- British Columbia: Delta- Saskatchewan: (2 guests)- California, USA: CypressTwelve attendees came for the first time this year!Descendants (& significant others) of John: 15Descendants (& significant others) of Daniel: 16Descendants (& significant others) of Henry: 13Not sure: 7(Note that some attendees are descendants of 2 of Adam and Catherine’s sons.)2. The donation of $10 per family covered the costs for the day. Yvonne Young and EleanorBell welcomed attendees at the desk.3. Family genealogy and pictures were displayed on one side of the hall.4. Ken Young, as Master of Ceremonies, welcomed everyone to the 9 th Annual Young Reunion,and Archie Young led us in grace.5. Everyone helped himself or herself to the potluck meal.6. Prizes were awarded to the attendees who came the longest distance (David Faux fromCypress, California, and Tinker & Doreen Young from Delta, British Columbia); the oldestattendee (Pearl Richarz from Mississauga); the youngest attendee (Shawn Richarz from Hamilton– although Jason and Amy Young arrived after the game); the person who drove the oldest car(Larry Young from Caledonia), and first time attendees. Janet Woods and Betty Yundt led thisactivity.7. David Faux was welcomed and introduced by Ken Young.a. David presented very interesting information about his search for the Y-chromosome DNAsignature of Adam Young. This information can be found by visiting his website(www.davidkfaux.org), or linking directly here: www.davidkfaux.org/YOUNGY-DNA.html.David obtained DNA from two Young descendants (Ken – descendant of Daniel Young, andLarry – descendant of John Young) to research this question. Based on this testing, the nextquestion is whether the Youngs were Germanic - Scandinavian, or La Tene Celtic in terms ofearly origins. This question should be answered by the next Reunion.b. David has offered to send information about individuals’ direct line to Adam Young andCatherine Schremling by contacting him via email: fauxdk@yahoo.com. He will send a report onthe grandchild of Adam Young who is your ancestor. Kindly send him the name (e.g., PeterYoung son of Sgt. Daniel Young) and he will send an e-mail attachment that can be opened by

2any computer which will detail all known descendants (to about 1930) of this person along withmany biographical details. Information on the earlier generations is found on the above notedwebsite.c. David and Ken also gave an update on the Young Tract Burying Ground. A brief annual meeting for the Young Family Memorial Society also occurred.Purpose of this society: To ensure ongoing maintenance of the Young Memorial.a. Status of application for charitable status (income tax purposes): Heritage designation must beobtained before we can apply for charitable status, so an application has been forwarded toHeritage Haldimand Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC). Thisprocess will take 6- 12 months, and then the Society will re-apply to Canada Customs andRevenue for Charitable status.b. The Board of Directors were voted in as follows:President:Dan YoungVice president: Ken YoungSecretary:Shawn RicharzTreasurer:Directors:Betty YundtStewart YoungBob Young (heir of Gladys Young)Marnie BruceMotion made by Archie Young to accept this Board of Directors, to hold office for 2 – 3 years.One representative of each original owner (Stewart Young, Gladys Young, Marnie Bruce) willhold office on the board.Seconded by Paul Richarz.c. Treasurer report was provided by Betty Yundt. Balance in account is $845.12. Projectedrevenue is admission to today’s reunion. Projected expenses include hall rental and supplies forreunion.9. Shawn Richarz and Mary Lou Harrison led the group in 2 trivia games based on a Canadiantheme.10. Door prizes were provided. Thank you to those who donated prizes: Shawn Richarz, Mary-Lou Harrison, Gabriella and Glenn Young, Betty Yundt. The jellybean count winner was LillianStephens (within 5 jellybeans).11. Family pictures were taken in groups (descendants of John, Daniel, Henry).12. Thank you to everyone who helped out on the day, setting up, cleaning up, greeting,organizing games and for attending the 9 th Annual Young Reunion! Thanks especially to YvonneYoung, Eleanor Bell, Kelly Carter, Mary-Lou Harrison, Janet Woods, Dan Young, Ken Young,Shawn Richarz, Bob Young.
