The Fine Arts Department, composed of Art, Drama and Music, aims to
develop an appreciation of the fine arts and a facility in the performance of
these arts.
INTRODUCTORY ART (9,10,11,12)

A foundation background of art history and appreciation is provided
through slides, videos, and virtual museum tours. Simple projects using
paint, cut paper, and graphite are created to explore color, line, value,
shape, and texture. Museum visits, art website exploration, and
independent study are optional offerings to assess learning. This course is
required for entry into upper level art courses.
TWO-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN (10,11,12)
1 sem. 0.5 credit
Prerequisite: Introductory Art
This course explores the concepts of two-dimensional art forms. Design
principles and their application are applied to studio problems in drawing,
painting and printmaking.
THREE-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN (10,11,12)
1 sem. 0.5 credit
Prerequisite: Introductory Art
Ideas are formulated and visualized through the utilization of materials and
techniques related to sculpture, clay work and fiber arts.
PHOTOGRAPHY (11,12)
1 sem. 0.5 credit
Prerequisite: Introductory Art
This is an introductory course with basic theory, darkroom procedures and
picture taking. Students must have a 35mm camera with an adjustable
shutter and diaphragm; automatic cameras must have manual override.
Composition and color will also be explored using digital cameras and
Photoshop. Photography is required of yearbook and newspaper
photographers with no experience. Students purchase their own paper and
film.
