What’s happening to trams and buses in Area 6?
We understand that these works will result in alterations to your
journey and will usually make your journey longer than you’re
used to. Therefore, we’ve worked hard with our colleagues at
Stagecoach as well as our partners at SYPTE and Sheffield City
Council to ensure that wherever possible, the effect of the work
on your journey is kept to a minimum.
There will be times where bus services need to operate a revised
or extended route. Buses may also be subject to traffic controls
in the areas that work takes place and these alterations may
affect you as well. Where possible, we recommend planning
your journey before you travel. You can also follow us on Twitter
for links to important information about routes and diversions,
particularly when worksites move.
Meadowhall and Halfway services
In this set of works, the Yellow tram route from Meadowhall and
the Blue tram route from Halfway combine to create the Green
tram route which will operate directly between Meadowhall and
Halfway. During the day Monday to Saturday the Green route will
run every 12 minutes and every 20 minutes at other times. As
work is taking place between Sheffield Station and Castle Square
tram stop, trams from Meadowhall, Halfway and Herdings Park
will be unable to serve the City Centre.
The times of all trams may vary from the usual timetable so
please check times carefully before travelling.
Herdings Park services
The Purple route will operate between Herdings Park and Sheffield
Station with a small number of off peak services extending to/
from Meadowhall. These include the 0555, 0625, 0655 and 0725
weekday services from Herdings Park and the 0610 weekday
service from Meadowhall which will operate to Herdings Park.
Trams will operate :

Middlewood and Malin Bridge services
From Middlewood, Yellow route trams will operate to Castle
Square and back. The Blue route from Malin Bridge will also
operate to Castle Square and back. During the day Monday to
Saturday each route will operate every 12 minutes and every 20
minutes at all other times.
Replacement bus services
Herdings Park to Sheffield Station
Middlewood to Castle Square
Malin Bridge to Castle Square
Halfway to Meadowhall (via Sheffield Station)
Replacement buses will connect with Green and Purple trams
at Granville Road. In the City Centre, replacement buses will
continue to operate from St James Row at the side of the
Cathedral, connecting with trams from Middlewood and Malin
Bridge. During early mornings, evenings and on Sunday’s buses
will operate around every 10 minutes. During the day Monday to
Saturday buses will run a high frequency service, around every 6
to 10 minutes.
Replacement buses may be subject to traffic delays and you
should expect through journeys (for example Middlewood to
Meadowhall) to take longer than normal so please make sure you
allow extra time to complete your journey. We’ll always try and
keep all of our tram and bus services on time but sometimes this
is out of our control as traffic can affect us in the same way it
affects all road users.

Where do I buy my ticket?
If you’re starting your journey on a tram, you can buy your
ticket as normal from our on board conductor. If you start your
journey on a rail replacement bus, you can buy your ticket from
the driver. At some bus stops we will also have conductors at the
stop, particularly at peak times. In this case, please buy your ticket
from the conductor as this will help avoid a long wait at the bus
stop when the bus arrives.
Usual Supertram fares and conditions apply to all journeys on
replacement bus services. The table below shows which tickets are
valid where;

Journey planning
We’ve worked with SYPTE to ensure that wherever possible,
amended tram times and the times of replacement bus services
are available in journey planning tools. We also plan
to have real time information for replacement bus services
available when using the Your Next Bus service. Just use the codes
provided on the bus map to track the location of Your Next Bus at
tsy.acislive.com
Remember, the dedicated journey planning helpline will also
be available every weekday from 0800 to 1800 by calling
0114 2211333. The team on this helpline can only provide
journey information for trams and replacement buses.

Diversions and alterations
Because of the location of the work taking place in the City
Centre, there will be times where bus services are required to
alter or extend their route to operate between Shalesmoor and
Granville Road via West Street and the City Centre. We’re waiting
for full details of when these alterations will be required so please

Additional information
Track will be replaced on the Park Square Bridge up to the road
crossing prior to Castle Square tramstop. Apart from where the
tracks cross the road at Haymarket these works are in areas
where only trams operate so no road traffic will be affected.
For this period of works, the Green service operates on the
Yellow route - Meadowhall to Sheffield Station and Blue
route between Halfway and Sheffield Station providing a
direct link between Halfway and Meadowhall
