7. General Business
7.1 State Reports:
South Australia: This year has been a good year for SA Drug Free Powerlifting Association with a
small increase in new memberships. They have felt the bite of the current financial climate which
has made sponsorship hard to obtain. Drug testing is their biggest expense and fund raising has
been difficult for their hard working committee. It is great to see their drug testing is coming up
with good results. No positives! Recently their state body made some small changes to their
constitution which has given them more control over who can become members and who will be
refused. Don Juers thanked the present national body for keeping things running smoothly after
Austin Morrison and John Clow stood down from many years of excellent work for Drug Free
Powerlifting. Well done to everyone who contributes to the sport we all enjoy. Keep up the good
work.
Accepted: Nathan Shepherd
Seconded: Deborah Macer
NSW: Drug Free Powerlifting in NSW currently has 13 lifting members. This small group holds the
Offices of National Drug Control Officer and National Record Keeper, and they have 2 International
Referees, 3 National referees and 4 State Referee’s. The position of National Record Keeper will be
vacated on July 15 th . Dr Mark Sands is reluctant to stand through pressing professional obligations.
Unfortunately, through lack of interest, the NSW State Championships were not held. The National
Single Lift Championships is scheduled to be held in Merimbula on September15 th , 2012 at the RSL.
They will require the usual assistance with drug test funding that has occurred in the past to host
this event. They are happy to be able to field a small team at this year’s Nationals
Accepted: Damien Powell
Seconded by: Kim Borg
Victoria: Adam Mazzon reported that they currently have 45 members. They held 2
competitions this year. The first was the Qualifier competition was held in Kyneton. It was
recommended that this competition no longer be run in Kyneton but in Maryborough due to
location, hauling of equipment etc. Motion to change the venue to be proposed at the

Victorian General Meeting.
The second competition was the Vics. Entry was a gold coin donation from spectators. A
successful event. A raffle was held which raised $300 and paid for one drug test.
Expenses incurred to date were the purchase of stands & weights. They are now fully stocked and
equipped for future competitions. Next year should see them financially sound as there are no
major expenses expected.
In the past trophies were organised via John Clow. This year Denai Derecki has sourced them in
Maryborough at wholesale prices. Any unused trophies can be returned. Medallions were
presented at the Vics.
The Nationals were being held in Maryborough and these location was seen to be easier to access.
Adam Mazzon thanked Wayne Belcher of use of the Town Hall.
7.2 Nationals 2013
Nathan Shepherd proposed that the Nationals for 2013 be held in Melbourne at the Derrimut 24/7
gym. This gym currently has 8000 members. Nick who owns the gym is willing to support the
competition via sponsorship, clothing and the like. They gym has excellent facilities and would be a
great venue to promote and attract more members into our association. It was also proposed that
Victoria hold the 3 lift competitions next year and proceed to rotate the events around the States
from there. The group was very keen to make this happen. Proposal to hold Nationals was voted
upon.
Accepted by: Rachael Wilson
Seconded: Don Juers
7.3 Suit length issue
The length of a soft suit is 25cms and the hard suit is 15cms. It was proposed at the congress
meeting that the length of the hard suit be implemented for the soft suit.
A motion was put forward to seek clarification from Wim Backelant with regards to the leg length
rule for soft suits and include these in the rules.
7.4 Communication
Nathan Shepherd reported that there has been a lack of communication between the States.
Nathan requested that communication be increased so everyone is in the loop. A motion was put
forward to hold the AGM on the day of or the night before the 3 lift competition. It was noted that
the process for communication is that the State Secretary from each State should be
communication any information via the National Secretary and the information is then distributed.
A request was also put forward to have meeting information distributed in advance so members
were aware of the time, location, date and agenda a few weeks prior to the event and that this
information be posted on the website. It was suggested that ASIC be contacted to query what the
minimum requirement is to publicly display the meeting information and would displaying this
information on the website be sufficient?
Motioned by: Nathan Shepherd
Seconded by: Grant Cruikshank
7.5 Clarification
Nathan Shepherd sough clarification with relation to the terms of members tenure. He wanted to
confirm that each position was for a duration of 12 months. This was confirmed by the group. The
Corporations Act would confirm the terms of the positions and whether they were governed by the
rules of Pty Ltd.

7.6 Dates
Dates for future competitions were proposed and are as follows:
SA: March, May and October – will hold single lifts in 2012
NSW: January, April, June/July and Aug/Sept
VIC: 3 rd February, 5 th May, 4 th , 11 th , 18 th , 25 th Aug/Sept (TBC)
8. Any Other Business
Damien Powell queried if competing in Nationals from another State do you have to be a member
of that State? It was confirmed that you do not have to be.
Denai Derecki will compile a newsletter from which the National Secretary will seek input from the
State Secretary’s to be included in the newsletter to be posted on the website. It was suggested
that a profile be included so that people would get to know others in the association and this would
range from officials to lifters and volunteers.
Adam Mazzon nominated Michael Waddington as the Representative to start a Queensland
Chapter for Drug Free Powerlifting. This was an encouraging sign and everyone was enthusiastic
and excited by the prospect.
