MUSICALLY TALENTED STUDENTS
SHOWCASE THEIR TERRIFIC
TALENTS
At 7pm on Thursday, Holmer Green Senior School’s most
talented musicians will shine bright in front of local members of
the public to impress them in their annual Spring Concert.
Organised by Jane Phillips, Head of Music at HGSS, an
incredible showcased event will be carried out, resulting in a
huge success at the ‘School that aims and achieves high’.
First to wow the audience is a quartet of highly successful
students: Alice, 14; Olivia, 13; Hannah, 14 and Emma, 14.
They are singing their version of the beautiful ‘The Lord Bless
you and Keep You’! To follow up the talentedquartet’s
performance will be performances from
various other students, from ages 11-18 and then
finishing with the Swing Band and Choir presenting
a wonderful performance of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’.
The show is all down to the Head of Music at HGSS- Jane
Phillips- and without her belief and hope in the students; the
show would not be taking place tonight.
She said: ‘I have decided to put on a music concert because it
gives pupils an opportunity to perform in public and they are all
very talented.’ She is glad to have the chance to put on a show
like this with the many talented musicians that there are in the
school. As well as her pupils being musically gifted, she is as
well, because she plays piano, flute, clarinet and saxophone.
However she would like to learn the guitar!
Fan and performer at the Concert: Alice, 14, expressed her
love for music. She is a current year 10 and enjoys taking
music for GCSE.
She said ‘it’s fun and Mrs Phillips is a good
teacher’. As a singer and Pianist she would
also like to be able to play the Ukulele. She
then went on to say: ‘I would love to be able
to take Music as an A-Level too, in a couple
of years’.
Teachers higher up in the school also demonstrate their
passion for music.
Elizabeth Tack- Deputy Head and ICT teacher of the schoolcommented
‘Music is an extremely important subject to be
taught in schools. Everybody has different abilities, however
music is one that everybody can adopt and be good at if they
have the chance and providence’.
Music- the talent that everybody can foster, and that shouldn’t
be prohibited- is clearly represented at Holmer Green Senior
School- Mrs Tack also agreed with this: ‘There are masses of
talent, I just couldn’t name one! Every one of them should be
proud! Last year there were so many talents: Guitarists,
Singers, Violinists and Pianists.’
In addition to all of the music clubs that the school has to offer,
there is a new one called The Harmonica Club! Although this
new club has only been founded and organised very recently,
by Paul Daron- a new music teacher in the school- the club
itself will also be performing at the concert tonight!
Everybody is looking forward to the clubs performance,
especially the talented new music teacher at the school: Mr
Daron! ‘I play Piano, Harmonica, the didgeridoo, Guitar, and I
sing’ the ex-member of a number of bands informed.
‘The first instrument that I learnt was the Guitar and I started
playing at the age of 12. I would still like to play the Trumpet
though’ Mr Daron added. During the short period of time that
he has been at HGSS he has seen a number of musical-talents,
and both he and Mrs Phillips expect to see some of them on the
‘XFactor’ very soon.
Until the concert, all that the supporters and teachers at the
school can do is wait with anticipation for the show to
commence! However, let’s hope that all of the hard work and
dedication from the school is appreciated by the audience…are
we watching future superstars?
