By Sofia Echeagaray &
Andrea Cruz
Masterminds, a
student club that challenges
the mind
through a game show
format, is alive again
after an eight-year absence,
according to
Mr. Jess Castorena,
club sponsor.
KRGV Channel
5 new produces the
academic quiz show
for high school students
from across the
valley. Students face
off on subjects such as
English, History, Math,
Current Events, Art,
and Music, hosted by
Channel 5 news
weather anchor Tim
Smith. The students
participating practice
in Castorena’s room
209 on Mondays from
4:15 pm to 5:00 pm.
Club members said
they don’t yet know
the dates of their telev
i s e d c o n t e s t s .
Rowe’s participation
in Masterminds
will benefit the school
library financially if
they win the competition,
and it will help
some students be
more involved in
school activities such
as the club.
During the
game, several rounds
and speed rounds
take place as part of
the competition. This
tournament lasts from
an hour to an hour and
a half. Rowe competes
against other high
schools from the valley
chosen randomly.
Castorena said he is
looking forward to the
competitions and having
a Masterminds
team at Rowe again.
first division rating
at the Pigskin Competition.
Head
Drum
often interact
to create a subculture
centered on role play.
A broader use of the
term "cosplay" applies
to any costumed role
play in venues apart
from the stage, regardless
of the cultural
context,” According
to Wikipedia. The
