Basic Introduction to <strong>Offshore</strong> Safety<br />
COURSE N O. 1.1 - BASIC INTRODUCTION TO OFFSHORE SAFETY (BIOS)<br />
COURSE TYPE: Basic Safety & Emergency Response <strong>Training</strong><br />
INTENDED FOR: All personnel on or travelling to a Mobile <strong>Offshore</strong> Unit (MOU) (see<br />
exemptions below). The course is designed to meet the initial<br />
onshore safety training and assessment requirements for personnel<br />
new to the offshore oil and gas industry and destined to work on<br />
and or travel to MOU’s.<br />
OBJECTIVE: To gain a basic level of understanding and awareness of safety and<br />
emergency response on Mobile <strong>Offshore</strong> Units (MOU’s).<br />
LEARNING<br />
TARGETS: Safety & Security Introduction:<br />
a. brief introduction to offshore;<br />
b. general safety and security measures, controls and procedures;<br />
c. individual responsibility for safety;<br />
d. protective measures;<br />
e. reporting incidents;<br />
f. introduction to first aid.<br />
Helicopter Operations: (Not HUET)<br />
a. pre-boarding preparation;<br />
b. in flight safety;<br />
c. arrival procedure.<br />
Survival at Sea Techniques:<br />
a. personal safety, survival and rescue equipment;<br />
b. muster and evacuation points & procedures;<br />
c. use of emergency escape equipment;<br />
d. individual & group survival & rescue techniques;<br />
e. rescue by support vessels & helicopters;<br />
f. offshore drills, exercises & emergency procedures;<br />
Basic Fire Fighting and Self Rescue:<br />
a. causes and nature of fires & principles of prevention;<br />
b. purpose of fixed detection & protection systems;<br />
c. actions to take on discovering a fire;<br />
d. operation of portable fire fighting equipment;<br />
e. location, use and response to alarms;<br />
