The theme for the 32nd Annual Minnesota American Indian Institute on Alcohol and
Drug Studies (MAIIADS) is “The Many Faces of Addiction” and will focus on how
addiction (alcohol, drug, sex, gambling, etc.) affects everyone including the addicted
person, the family, and our communities.
The MAIIADS conference offers a holistic perspective on chemical dependency by
providing a focus on youth, adults, elders, and community healing. State licensure in
chemical dependency requires a focus on cultural knowledge and skill development.
In keeping with this requirement, many of the Institute’s presenters are credentialed
professionals who are American Indian.
The Institute is the coming together of chemical dependency professionals who serve
Anishinaabeg and Dakota people, and personnel from the Minnesota Department of
Human Services. The Anishinaabeg and the Dakota represent the eleven federally
recognized tribes in Minnesota, as well as many urban non-profit programs serving
American Indian families in Minnesota.
