Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the <strong>Irish</strong> <strong>Film</strong> <strong>Board</strong> (IFB) aims to<br />
invest in new talent by providing opportunities for filmmakers to<br />
develop skills in live action filmmaking, documentary, animation<br />
and digital technology.<br />
To this end we provide funding for short films through a series<br />
of schemes all of which welcome and actively encourage <strong>Irish</strong><br />
language entries.<br />

SIGNATURES<br />
Signatures is the IFB flagship short film<br />
scheme. It showcases live action short<br />
filmmaking, encouraging strong, original<br />
storytelling, visual flair and production values<br />
appropriate to the big screen. These short<br />
films act as a proving-ground for <strong>Irish</strong> creative<br />
talents aspiring to write, direct and produce<br />
feature-length films for the cinema.<br />
The Signatures films premiered at the Cork<br />
<strong>Film</strong> Festival and were selected by Andrew<br />
Meehan (IFB), Fran Keaveney (IFB) and<br />
director Lenny Abrahamson.<br />
SHORT SHORTS<br />
Short Shorts aims to produce ultra short<br />
pieces, which can be used to promote <strong>Irish</strong><br />
filmmaking with the high impact power of<br />
advertisements, but without a product to<br />
sell. The short films each year in this scheme<br />
conform to a genre chosen for that year by<br />
the IFB.<br />
The Short Shorts which premiered at the<br />
Galway <strong>Film</strong> Fleadh conformed to the theme<br />
‘Ireland, I Love You’ and were selected by<br />
Simon Perry (IFB), Fran Keaveney (IFB) and<br />
actor/writer Mark O’Halloran.<br />
REALITY BITES<br />
Reality Bites is a short documentary scheme<br />
which encourages the experimentation and<br />
realisation of fresh approaches to non-fiction<br />
filmmaking, whether the documentary is<br />
journalistic or creative, observational or<br />
aesthetic, objective or personal.<br />
The Reality Bites documentaries premiered at<br />
the Cork <strong>Film</strong> Festival and were selected by<br />
Alan Maher (IFB), Fran Keaveney (IFB) and<br />
Nicole Stott (Passion Pictures).<br />
FRAMEWORKS<br />
Frameworks is a short animation scheme<br />
which aims to encourage filmmakers with<br />
imagination, visual flair and commitment<br />
to innovative animation. It is also open to<br />
established animators who may wish to<br />
realize more personal and creative projects.<br />
The Frameworks animations premiered at<br />
the Galway <strong>Film</strong> Fleadh and were selected<br />
by Emma Scott (IFB), Eilish Kent (RTÉ),<br />
Fionnuala Sweeney (Arts Council) and<br />
Michael Rose (Magic Light Pictures).<br />
GEARRSCANNÁIN<br />
Tá sé mar aidhm ag Gearrscannáin<br />
gearrscannáin Gaeilge a sholáthar, a<br />
spreagfaidh stiúrthóirí nua atá sásta chun<br />
dul sa seans, a thabharfaidh téamaí suimiúla<br />
nua chun cinn, chomh maith le bheith<br />
tarraingteach don lucht féachana ginearálta.<br />
Roghnaíodh na Gearrscannáin a taispeánadh<br />
don gcéad uair i 2011 ag Fran Keaveney<br />
(BSÉ), Alicia McGivern, agus an scríbhneoir<br />
Trish Forde.<br />
Gearrscannáin aims to produce <strong>Irish</strong><br />
language short films that encourage<br />
new directorial voices willing to take<br />
risks, challenge audiences and introduce<br />
interesting themes while at the same time<br />
appeal to a general audience.<br />
The Gearrscannáin shorts which premiered in<br />
2011 were selected by Fran Keaveney (IFB),<br />
Alicia McGivern and writer Trish Forde.<br />
