The table above shows only the sanctions considered appropriate to various offences, but other more supportive actions may be desirable and indeed necessary, these are as follows : Formation Tutor/Pastoral Leader/Learning Mentor/Leadership Team talking with pupil to explore reasons for misbehaviour; Referral to School Chaplain to talk things over with a ‘neutral observer’; Referral through Pastoral Leader or Leadership Team to agencies such as Education Social Worker, Educational Psychologist, Behaviour Support, Social Care and Health; Possible SEN support if bad behaviour stems mainly from a learning difficulty, and certainly in such a case increased differentiation in curriculum. It is vital that time is spent rewarding good pupils as well as punishing erring ones, and there will be a danger of depressing the morale of the majority of pupils. Guidance for staff and processes regarding the issuing of blue concern sheets Any member of staff may issue a blue concern sheet. However, non teaching staff such as Teaching Assistants, Learning Mentors and Librarians usually discuss their concerns with the appropriate Pastoral and Curriculum Leaders and then issue a blue form as appropriate. Dinner Supervisors and office staff will usually speak to the appropriate Pastoral Leader when they have an issue of concern. Blue Concern Sheets KS3 and 4: All blue concern sheets will be recorded on pupil file according to the category of their misdemeanour. 3 Blue Concern sheets across subject areas will trigger parental contact from HOY HOD must keep a record of the names of pupils issued with blue sheets. If the same pupil has had 3 blue sheets the HOD must speak to the HOY and if appropriate, send a letter home. Referral Process: There must always be a comment in the Homework Diary FIRST before a blue concern sheet is issued. The pupil must be told why she has been issued with a concern sheet What has been done previously must be recorded on the sheet Behaviour Policy
HOD Referral: Issues in lessons The blue sheet must be given to the HOD HOD will action it within 24 hours (as far as possible) HOD will inform you of his/her action Should you not have feedback within 24hrs please remind the HOD HOD will pass it onto the HOY noting if it is for information or requiring HOY Action. HOD will keep a record of concerns issued HOD will review concern/praise issues as a set agenda item at departmental meetings. Information Sharing: There will be a weekly printing of the names of pupils receiving blue sheets in the staffroom Formation Tutors can see whether any pupil in his/her form is receiving concern sheets and address this with the pupil Teachers will be able to identify cross subject patterns. HOY will write beside pupil names the actions that have been taken as a result of the concern sheet. The monitoring of the distribution of blue concern sheets is carried out by Curriculum and Pastoral leaders and by the Senior Leadership in the weekly publishing of pupils issued with blue concern sheets. Where it is felt that that a blue sheet has been issued inappropriately this will be addressed with the individual member of staff. There is also an expectation that staff will issue praise in the form of commendations at KS 3, praise cards, Achievement of the Week Awards as well as Departmental praise so as to balance out sanctions and to allow pupils the opportunity to experience and be recognised for their positive contributions.
