When people ask us what our company does, we often tell them, “We
provide a way for teachers to collect data with whatever technology they
want to use.” Over the years, that technology has changed a lot. Last year,
teachers told us they wanted more support for Chromebooks. In response,
we introduced Graphical Analysis for Chrome OS and added support to our
web app for our Go!Temp, Go!Motion, and Go!Link. These provide an
easy-to-use, inexpensive sensor solution for the many schools that are
adopting Chromebooks or iPads.
We have a lot of great new products
this year, but one leads to a personal
note from David: When I was a physics
teacher (see photo), I ran a bridgebuilding
contest every year, and it was
a huge hit. It got so popular that it was
difficult to test all the bridges. I tried
every method I could think of to apply
the force in a measured way. Nothing
worked well, until I finally learned to use
strain gages, and I built an apparatus
connected to an Apple II computer to
measure the force as it was applied by a jack. This experimentation was a key
step in the start of this company. Now that we are introducing our Vernier
Structures & Materials Tester, it seems that things are coming full circle.
If you find yourself in the Portland, Oregon area, we encourage you to
stop in and see the new building addition to our office, with an improved
classroom and other facilities to allow us to better handle workshops.
8 employee owners who have backgrounds in science and math education, as well
as business.
