ACADEMY OF NUTRITION AND DIETETICS AWARDS OFFERED FOR YOUNG DIETETIC PROFESSIONALS RECOGNIZED YOUNG DIETITIANS OF THE YEAR AWARD (RYDY) One RYDY Per CDA District will be chosen The purpose of the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year program is to recognize the competence and activities of younger dietitians in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and to encourage their continued participation in association affairs.This group will be an additional resource from which the leadership of the Association will develop - at the district, state, and national levels. In addition to publishing the list of RYTYs in the Journal of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, each awardee will receive a formal certificate of recognition from the President of the Association. A. Criteria for Selection of RYDY 1. Member of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a Registered Dietitian. 2. Age limit as of May 1 of deadline year, 35 years or younger (year in which award is given) 3. Active participation in national, state, or district association. 4. Not Previously selected as an RYDY. 5. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population. 6. Demonstrated leadership, e.g. in legislation, research, education, management, etc., either in the Association or employment. RECOGNIZED DIETETIC TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD (RDTY) One RDTY Chosen from the State of California The purpose of the Recognized Dietetic Technician of the Year Award is to recognize the professional contributions of dietetic technicians in The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and to encourage their continued participation in Association Affairs. In addition to publishing the list of RDTYs in the Journal of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, each awardee will receive a formal certificate of recognition from the President of the Association. A. Criteria for Selection 1. Technician Membership in The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a Registered Diet Technician. Please verify with candidates. 2. Age limit as of May 1 of deadline year 35 years or younger (year in which award is given) 3. Active participation in national, affiliate, or district association. 4. Not previously selected for this award. 5. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population. 6. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc., in the Association or employment. EMERGING DIETETIC LEADER AWARD One EDL Chosen from the State of California The purpose of the Emerging Dietetic Leader Award is to recognize the competence and activities of registered dietitians regardless of their age, who have made distinctive contributions early in their dietetics careers to The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The award encourages their continued participation in Association affairs. This group will be an additional resource from which the leadership of the Association will develop at the district, state, and national levels. In addition to publishing the list of Emerging Dietetic Leaders in the Journal of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, each awardee will receive a formal certificate of recognition from the President of the Association. A. Criteria for Selection 1. Membership in The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Please verify with candidates. 2. Practice experience not less than 5 years and not greater than 10 years. 3. Active participation in the national, state, or district association for at least 5 years. 4. Not previously selected as an RYDY or RDTY. 5. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population. 6. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., legislation, research, education, management, etc., in the Association or employment. Continued 8
B. Procedure for Selection 1. The maximum number of RYDY, RDTY (CDA may select 1 for each 10 districts) and Emerging Dietetic Leaders (one per state), per year is based on the number of districts. An affiliate may choose one RYDY from each district, but may not have more than one in a district. C. Action Following Selection 1. A certificate of recognition will be sent to the selectees together with a congratulatory letter from the President of AND. If a Affiliate Association wishes to receive the certificate for presentation at a formal meeting, national headquarters must be notified in writing when the data sheets are submitted. Certificates are generally ready for distribution each year in July/August. 2. RYDY, RDTY and Emerging Dietetic Leaders recipients will receive a name badge ribbon for use at the AND Annual Meeting and state meetings following their selection. 3. The list of RYDY, RDTY and Emerging Dietetic Leaders selectees for the year will be published in a fall issue of the Journal of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. 4. Award winners will also be recognized at the Recognition Ceremony and the CDA Awards program book.
