Ready Steady
Lamb!
One of the more light hearted aspects of NSA North Sheep 2015
is the Ready Steady Cook Competition.
Local Auctioneers will be challenged on their skills in
the kitchen, cooking the lamb they normally sell in
the ring. Based on the popular TV show, The North
Sheep Ready Steady Cook competition has two
heats and a final Cook-off.
Heat 1 Competitors - David Bowman from
Hopes Auction Mart, Wigton, and Grant Anderson
from Harrison and Hetherington
Heat 2 Competitors - Andrew Wright of Mitchells
Auction Mart and ex Secretary of the Scottish
Institute of Auctioneers and Chris Dodd’s Executive
Secretary of the Livestsock Auctioneers Association
Auctioneer Anthony Skelton is turning his skill
on the microphone to become RSC commentator
for the day. Barbara Huddart, who trained as a
professional Chef, will be on hand to assist the
amateurs in their attempts to create a memorable
meal.
The novice chefs have no idea what they will be
asked to cook.
The dishes have
been devised to
use lamb sold
at Mitchell’s mart of
Cockermouth and prepared by local
butchers Lindsays.
Commencing at 11.00am the contest will
conclude with the grilling final at 2.30pm.

Auctioneer at Mitchells Auction Mart, adds, “This

will a spectator’s highlight of the day, watching for
competitive auctioneers out of their day-to-day
comfort zones. They will be swapping the gift of the
gavel for the gift of the chopping board.
The recipes they will be invited to cook will be chosen
to highlight the type of dishes preferred by today’s
consumer and to promote the very best of British
Lamb.”
