Sámi Inspiration Extension<br />

Starting in Kirkenes, experience the flavour and<br />

magic of Lapland by combining your voyage<br />

with this fascinating trip into Northern Finland.<br />

This tour introduces you to the natural and<br />

cultural diversity of the Sámi, the largest indigenous<br />

group in Europe. Your three day visit to<br />

Finnish Lapland starts in Kirkenes.<br />

Day 1 Kirkenes-Inari<br />

The drive to Inari takes you through a stunning<br />

landscape of cascading waterfalls and salmonrich<br />

rivers. After Utsjoki you will pass the Sámi<br />

Bridge that connects Norway with Finland. You<br />

arrive at your hotel early evening, after a journey<br />

of 5-6 hours.<br />

Day 2 Inari<br />

During your stay you will visit SIIDA, the Sámi<br />

Museum and Northern Lapland Nature Centre<br />

which contains a wealth of exhibits highlighting<br />

the region’s cultural and environmental diversity.<br />

You will also visit a reindeer farm, where<br />

you learn about the life and farming techniques<br />

of the reindeer herders.<br />

Day 3 Inari-Kirkenes<br />

After departing Inari in the morning you head<br />

back towards Kirkenes, driving along the scenic<br />

highway that passes a captivating vista of glistening<br />

lakes. In the Skolt Sámi region you will<br />

learn something of the life and history of these<br />

distinctive people and visit an Orthodox church<br />

with an interesting graveyard before completing<br />

your journey back to Kirkenes.<br />

King Crab Safari<br />

This excursion offers a unique winter experience<br />

beginning with a snowmobile-drawn sleigh ride<br />

from a traditional fisherman´s home to a frozen<br />

fjord. After sawing a hole in the ice, you will set<br />

about trying to catch a magnificent king crab.<br />

These incredible crustaceans can span two<br />

metres and weigh up to 15 kilos. They will be<br />

prepared and cooked for you when you return to<br />

the fisherman´s house – a rewarding meal at the<br />

end of a fabulous excursion.<br />
