Winter likes to say.
But Spring says, “Leave it home!
Today’s a sweater day!”
Work in the Garden
Tex and Indi
By Lissa Rovetch • Art by Amy Wummer
and their cat named Cow
“What a perfect day to plant our garden,” said Mom.
“Can I put my rose here?” asked Indi.
“Sure,” said Dad. “Start digging!”
“Where can my tomato plants go?” asked Tex.
“Over here,” said Arizona. “I’m planting some
catnip for Cow. You can put the tomatoes in the
vegetable bed.”
“I didn’t know vegetables needed to sleep,” said Tex.
“What are you talking about?” said Indi. “Vegetables
don’t sleep!”
“Well,” Tex said with a grin, “why else would they
need a bed?”
“Oh, I get it! A vegetable bed!” said Indi. “That’s a
pretty good joke, Tex!”
When everything was planted, Tex and Indi
added compost from the compost bin. Arizona
watered the new plants.
“The flowers look beautiful!” said Dad.
“And with the vegetables and herbs, we’ve
made our own little farm,” said Mom.
“Wait a minute,” called Indi. She ran inside and
came back carrying her favorite pet. “You can’t have
a real farm without a Cow!” she said.
Everybody laughed as Cow headed straight for
the catnip.
