“The Smart Gift”<br />
The Rewards of Giv<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>Indiana</strong>’s Students through <strong>the</strong> Independent <strong>College</strong>s of <strong>Indiana</strong><br />
<strong>2008</strong> – 20<strong>09</strong><br />
<br />
Why Giv<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>ICI</strong> is “The Smart Gift”<br />
for Students and Society<br />
The personal and societal benefits of earn<strong>in</strong>g a college<br />
degree are well-known---greater lifetime earn<strong>in</strong>gs,<br />
<strong>in</strong>creased civic engagement (vot<strong>in</strong>g and volunteerism),<br />
and even better health. Not so well-known is that<br />
a degree from an <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>in</strong>dependent college or<br />
university offers all <strong>the</strong>se benefits and more, reflected<br />
<strong>in</strong> higher graduation rates, shorter time to degree<br />
completion, and greater alumni satisfaction. Students<br />
at <strong>Indiana</strong>’s <strong>in</strong>dependent campuses are more than twice<br />
as likely to graduate with <strong>the</strong>ir bachelor’s degrees <strong>in</strong><br />
four years as students at <strong>Indiana</strong>’s public <strong>in</strong>stitutions.<br />
Why Giv<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>ICI</strong> is “The Smart Gift”<br />
for Donors<br />
The Independent <strong>College</strong>s of <strong>Indiana</strong> (<strong>ICI</strong>) provides you<br />
<strong>the</strong> opportunity to contribute to 31 different colleges<br />
and universities (or a smaller number of your choice)<br />
by writ<strong>in</strong>g just one check, as well as to design your<br />
gift <strong>in</strong> whatever way you th<strong>in</strong>k best. Also, because <strong>ICI</strong><br />
deducts no fees from contributions and does not charge<br />
donors any adm<strong>in</strong>istrative costs, you can know that 100<br />
percent of your donation directly benefits students and<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir colleges or universities.<br />
<strong>ICI</strong>’s Mission<br />
A key element of <strong>ICI</strong>’s mission of advanc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> state’s<br />
31 <strong>in</strong>dependent <strong>in</strong>stitutions of higher education has<br />
always been a commitment to fundrais<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong> order to<br />
make <strong>the</strong> benefits of an <strong>in</strong>dependent college education<br />
a possibility for every student regardless of economic<br />
background. Although many <strong>in</strong>dividuals, corporations,<br />
endowments, and <strong>found</strong>ations give directly to<br />
<strong>in</strong>dividual <strong>in</strong>dependent campuses, many have also<br />
chosen over <strong>the</strong> years to give through <strong>ICI</strong>, which has<br />
raised more than $100 million s<strong>in</strong>ce its <strong>found</strong><strong>in</strong>g as <strong>the</strong><br />
Associated <strong>College</strong>s of <strong>Indiana</strong> <strong>in</strong> 1948.<br />
Our Special Thanks<br />
We thank all of you who have so generously supported<br />
our students and <strong>the</strong>ir campuses through giv<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>ICI</strong>.<br />
We are deeply grateful for your cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>vestment<br />
and confidence <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> benefits of <strong>in</strong>dependent higher<br />
education <strong>in</strong> <strong>Indiana</strong> and your help <strong>in</strong> mak<strong>in</strong>g it<br />
<br />
