IS DREAMING BIG!
Big enough to display an exhibit of 127 artworks created
collaboratively by 951 individuals from KS, PA, NJ, and
NY.
Sponsor: Thomas Edison National Historical Park
Thomas Edison’s home and laboratory are a step back in time,
when machines were run by belts and pulleys and music was
played on phonographs. Where to the passerby, the buildings
betray little evidence of the industries they once started. Discover
where America’s greatest inventor changed our world forever.
June 6 - August 31, 2015
Exhibit Location: Thomas Edison National Historical Park, 211 Main Street, West Orange, NJ, 07052, (973) 736-0550
Theme for this year’s exhibit is, “Who was
Thomas Edison and how does he impact
your life?”
“Through this exhibit, visitors will see the many ways in which people
have expressed their understanding of what the importance of Thomas
Edison and his inventions means to them,” said Dream Rocket Project
organizer Jennifer Marsh. “By exposing folks to the importance of
collaboration through multi-disciplinary approaches, we hope to inspire
them to dream big.”
In 2009, the International Fiber Collaborative
(IFC), launched its latest endeavor - THE
DREAM ROCKET PROJECT.
Thousands of artworks from various regions
of the world are being collected. Eventually,
all submissions will be connected side by side
to wrap the skeleton of a 385’ Space Launch
System (SLS) rocket replica, and will be
placed on temporary
exhibit at locations around
the United States. The SLS
is NASA’s dream rocket—
to Mars and beyond.
America’s new heavy-lift
rocket will be the largest
launch vehicle ever built and more powerful
than the Saturn V rocket that carried Apollo
astronauts to the moon. The selected themes
for submissions encourage individuals to
expand beyond the present state of the
world and imagine our future. Perhaps most
importantly, individuals are challenged to
imagine their contributions to that future.
These individual dreams & aspirations will
combine to create a monumental work of art,
providing a tangible demonstration of the
beauty of individuals collaborating to meet
universal challenges.
