Introduction
Kodak® TIFF Assembler Plus 2.6 software provides efficient tools for arranging 1-bit
TIFF files in a layout for platemaking and film imaging. TIFF Assembler Plus enables
you to design a layout, drag image files from Microsoft® Windows® Explorer directly
to the layout, and position them. You can arrange the files manually or let the
software find the best arrangement. Working with TIFF Assembler Plus saves time,
increases productivity, and minimizes media waste.
TIFF Assembler Plus 2.6 also enables you to plan and output corrugated jobs and to
plan (wrap) and output sleeve jobs.
TIFF Assembler Plus is supplied as part of the Kodak ThermoFlex® TIFF FE software
and also as standalone software.
These release notes describe the changes in the TIFF Assembler Plus 2.6 software
that were made after the previous version. Where applicable, the release notes refer
you to the help for more information.
What Is in These Release Notes
The release notes include the following sections:
• New Features describes new menu items, options, windows, or dialog boxes that
were added to TIFF Assembler Plus 2.6 software.
• Enhancements describes improvements that were made to existing features.
• Problems Fixed lists problems in the previous release of TIFF Assembler Plus that
are now resolved.

New Features
This section lists features that were added in the new release of the TIFF Assembler
Plus software.
Working With Corrugated Jobs
TIFF Assembler Plus enables you to plan and execute a corrugated job, that is a job
of data that is spread out on a large area (such as a refrigerator carton). Instead of
outputting the entire job as is and wasting valuable flexo plate area, TIFF Assembler
Plus enables you to create slugs around the data and arrange only these slugs on a
layout for output. After you expose the layout of the slugs, use the die file that TIFF
Assembler Plus enables you to print, to guide you in arranging the slugs on the
carrier.
TIFF Assembler Plus calculates the cost of the job using slugs and the cost of
outputting the job as is and lets you view the cost of both alternatives.

Working With Sleeve Jobs
TIFF Assembler Plus enables you to prepare and output sleeve/continuous jobs.
TIFF Assembler Plus enables you to perform image wrapping, which converts a
staggered layout into a rectangle that can be exposed on a sleeve.
TIFF Assembler Plus receives a stepped and repeated image in 1-bit TIFF format
from a workflow system. It then crops and rearranges sections of the “protruding”
one-up artwork to output a rectangular image that has a height equal to the repeat
length of the media sleeve.

New File Handling Options
• When you assign files to a layout, you may want to collect them together in one
location. In Preferences, you can decide where to put such files and whether to
copy or move these files to this location. Then, to collect the files, from the
Modify menu, select Collect Assigned Files.
• When you add files to a layout from a remote station, you can decide whether to
copy them or move them to a location on your local station.

New Features 3
The Resample Hot Folder
TIFF Assembler Plus introduces a new type of hot folder—the Resample hot folder.
All files that are put in the Resample hot folder are automatically resampled to a
defined resolution according to the hot folder's instructions.
Importing and Exporting TIFF Assembler Plus Settings
If you have more than one TIFF Assembler Plus stations on your site (Apple®
Macintosh® and/or Windows), you can export various settings such as all
preferences settings, all layout presets (as defined in the Layout Setup dialog box),
all job planning presets (as defined in the Job Planning Setup dialog box), and sleeve
planning parameters (the Repeat length values) from one station to another. The
settings are saved as an XML file.
You can also use this option for backing up your settings on your station.

Enhancements
This section lists features that were improved in this release of the TIFF Assembler
Plus software.
• When you switch to layout, you can now select one of several options: switching
to the open layout, switching to the default layout, or switching to one of the
layouts defined in the Layout Setup dialog box.
• You can preview a file by right-clicking the file in the Files or in the Unassigned
Files sections of the Inventory palette.
• Files in the Files and the Unassigned Files sections of the Inventory palette now
include a tooltip of the file path.
• When you add a label to an element on the layout, you can now define the
location of the label relative to the element (Bottom, Left, Right, Top) on the
Marks tab of the Info palette.
• The display window of a layout now shows the real label text instead of
displaying only a line representing the location of the label.
• The TIFF Assembler Plus hot folder now supports layouts in proof mode.
• TIFF Assembler Plus now supports Kodak Prinergy® Virtual Proofing System
(VPS) files in layout proof mode.
• The Enable the positioning of elements outside layout area check box
(Preferences>Advanced) enables you to position files outside or partly outside
the layout area and to output this layout. When you enable this option, the name
of the file that is outside the layout area appears in orange on the Files tab of the
Inventory palette.
If you do not enable this option in Preferences, and position a file outside or
partly outside the layout, the name of the file appears in red on the Files tab of
the Inventory palette and you cannot output the layout.
• Overlapping elements in a layout are displayed in orange on the Files tab of the
Inventory palette.
• The Knock out overlapping areas in layout mode check box
(Preferences>Advanced) now knocks out overlapping areas in the output file as
well as on screen.

• If you always want to resample file resolution to layout resolution (when you
add a file with a different resolution to a layout), and you want to avoid the
message asking you whether to resample the file, select the Resample file to
layout resolution automatically check box (Preferences>Advanced).
• The Zoom with scroll wheel check box (Preferences>Advanced) enables you to
zoom in and out with the scroll wheel.
• The Show advanced information in the File Information dialog box check box
(Preferences>Advanced) enables you to view advanced information in the File
Information dialog box such as bits per sample, samples per pixel, photometric
interpretation, raster type, and tile/strip size.
• The File Information dialog box now shows the size of the file also in pixels.
• The Set label location automatically to minimize output size check box
(Preferences>Marks) enables the option to automatically place the label of
each element in an optimal location for the smallest possible output size.
• When you preview TIFF files, the Separations tab of the Inventory palette now
includes a tooltip of the full separation name and file path.
• To scroll horizontally in the display window, press SHIFT and scroll with the scroll
wheel.
• When you use the Measure tool, the Info palette now contains tooltips of the
values in pixels.
• As screen angles can be measured from different start positions and in different
directions, the Separations tab of the Inventory palette now displays an
additional value for the angle, a value with a 90 degree difference, in a tooltip.
• TIFF Assembler Plus is now set as the default software for .cta and .pln files.
• TIFF Assembler Plus is now set as the default software for TIFF files if Xpo is not
installed on the same station.

Problems Fixed
This section lists problems that are resolved in this release of the TIFF Assembler
Plus software.
• Sometimes, there is a misregistration of the labels of elements in proof mode
after output. Corrected
• On a Macintosh computer, when you manually move a file/s on the layout, and
the layout contains many files, there are refresh problems. Corrected
• Sometimes, when you resample a TIFF file, a line is added to the side of the
image. Corrected
• When you use the Arrange feature and select Center Center in the Alignment
box, the files are centered relative to the layout instead of being centered
relative to the margins. Corrected
• If your screen resolution is 1024x768, when you create a new layout, save it and
then open it again, the Assigned Files section of the Inventory palette is reduced
in size. Corrected
• The Gap between mark and element value (Preferences>Marks) is always
displayed in inches regardless of the measurement unit you selected in
Preferences. Corrected
• If you place a small element (small strip) with a label near the right edge of the
layout, TIFF Assembler Plus crashes. Corrected

Installing TIFF Assembler Plus Software
Before you start installing TIFF Assembler Plus, make sure that the TIFF Assembler
Plus dongle is disconnected.
To install TIFF Assembler Plus on Microsoft Windows operating system:
1. Insert the TIFF Assembler Plus 2.6 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Double-click the TIFFAssembler.exe file.
3. Follow the instructions of the installation wizard.
When the installation process is completed, the following message appears.
4. If this is the first time you are installing TIFF Assembler Plus on this computer,
click Yes to install the Aladdin® HASP® dongle.
If this is not the first time you are installing TIFF Assembler Plus, Click No.
5. In the TIFF Assembler Plus installation wizard, select the Yes, I want to restart
my computer now. check box.
6. Click Finish.
To install TIFF Assembler Plus on Mac OS operating system:
1. Insert the TIFF Assembler Plus 2.6 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Double-click the TIFFAssembler_Installer file.
3. In the small window, click Continue.

4. Click Continue.
The installer automatically selects the OS X volume.
5. Click Continue.

6. Click Install.
When the installation process is completed, the Install HASP window appears.
7. In the small window, click Continue.
8. In the Install HASP window, click Continue.

After the HASP driver installation is completed, the following window appears.

Upgrading TIFF Assembler Plus Software
To upgrade the TIFF Assembler Plus software on a Windows-based computer that
has the ThermoFlex TIFF FE software, you do not have to remove the TIFF
Assembler Plus software that was originally installed with ThermoFlex TIFF FE. The
new version of TIFF Assembler Plus automatically replaces the previous version.
To upgrade the TIFF Assembler Plus standalone software on a Windows-based
computer that already has the standalone version, you must first remove that
version.
To upgrade the TIFF Assembler Plus software on an Apple® computer, you do not
have to remove the current version of the software.
To remove the TIFF Assembler Plus software on Microsoft Windows operating
system:
1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove
Programs.
2. From the Currently installed programs list, select TIFF Assembler Plus and
click Remove.
3. In the wizard that appears, select the Remove option and click Next.
4. In reply to the Confirm Uninstall message, click OK.
5. In the wizard, click Finish.
Note: It is not necessary to restart the computer after you remove the software.
