Professional Experience
AT&T, San Ramon, CA 1994 - 2011
Associate Director, Corporate FP&A (2007 – 2011)
Chief Business Intelligence Architect for the Corporate Reporting and Planning organizations. Partnered with IT to enable
end-to-end process enhancements. Led a four member team of Oracle Essbase business analysts and developers as Process
Owner in the following key projects.
Key Projects:
• Product Allocation Model: Designed, developed, and maintained the long term corporate planning model. Replaced
over 20 driver-based spreadsheet models for the Wireline business segment with interconnected Oracle Essbase cubes.
Expanded progress to other organizations, resulting in additional Essbase cubes rolling up to one final aggregating
cube. Ten year product generated about $50B in revenue and $40B of expense.
• Foreign Exchange Reporting Process: Produced a foreign exchange Oracle Essbase calculation engine and reporting
process utilizing SQL and Hyperion Essbase to convert international revenues and expenses from local currencies to
US dollars and measure actual results versus F/X gains and losses.
• Capital Model for the Corporate Planning Group: Developed a model that calculated ten years of incremental capital
expenditure by program and project initiatives utilizing Hyperion Essbase. Process reduced refresh time from several
days to a few hours and calculated results at a more granular level, creating more meaningful data for business
• Employee Overtime Analysis: Created daily and monthly overtime Hyperion Essbase reporting cubes that calculated
actual overtime percentages along a hierarchical cost center dimension of about 40,000 cost centers, resulting in the
ability to quickly locate excessive overtime hours and expense by cost center and millions of cost savings for hourly
wage expense.
Key Projects:
Cost of Goods Sold Accrual Calculator: Replaced a manual accrual process from a third party carrier that provided
monthly invoices for traffic carried on behalf of ATT Long Distance. Utilized a Hyperion Essbase process using real time
vendor and long distance customer billing data to accurately allocate $50M of access COGS to the correct product, region,
month, and channel, reducing large monthly true-up and making P&L analysis more stable and reliable.
International Wholesale Calling Fraud: Developed a process to detect international wholesale calling fraud. Collaborated
with IT SQL programmers and the Legal Department to build billing system queries to detect high call volume to countries
with high access termination fees and disconnect fraudulent customers. Project resulted in $40M savings over five years.
