1992-1999 PhD-research “Immunophenotyping of lymphocytes in healthy and immunodeficient<br />
children” supervised by Prof. dr. J.J.M. van Dongen and Dr. R. de Groot Rotterdam,<br />
and Prof. dr. J.M.J.J. Vossen Leiden. First part: Longitudinal follow-up of lymphocyte<br />
subpopulations in the first year of life. Second part: lymphocyte phenotyping in<br />
immunodeficient children. Doctoral degree obtained on April 28, 1999, Erasmus<br />
University Rotterdam.<br />
2000-2007 Independent research in Pediatric Immunology. Development of three research lines:<br />
„Reference values in pediatric immunology‟, „Diagnostic evaluation of suspected<br />
immunodeficiency‟, and „Studies on the immune system in children with Down<br />
syndrome‟. Collaboration with the Laboratory for Clinical Chemistry and Hematology<br />
Jeroen Bosch Hospital `s-Hertogenbosch, the Department of Immunology Erasmus<br />
Medical Center Rotterdam (prof. dr. J.J.M. van Dongen), the Laboratory for Pediatric<br />
Immunology University Medical Center Leiden (dr. M.J.D. van Tol), and the<br />
Laboratory for Pediatric Immunology Wilhelmina Childrens‟ Hospital Utrecht (dr. G.R.<br />

research activities during residency. Supervisor of 1-2 medical students each year<br />
during their 3-months of Research Internship. Supervisor of two pediatric residents<br />
working in the research line ‘Reference values in pediatric immunology’, and three<br />
pediatric residents working in the research line ‘Studies on the immune system in<br />
children with Down syndrome’.<br />
