RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
1992-1999 PhD-research “Immunophenotyping of lymphocytes in healthy and immunodeficient
children” supervised by Prof. dr. J.J.M. van Dongen and Dr. R. de Groot Rotterdam,
and Prof. dr. J.M.J.J. Vossen Leiden. First part: Longitudinal follow-up of lymphocyte
subpopulations in the first year of life. Second part: lymphocyte phenotyping in
immunodeficient children. Doctoral degree obtained on April 28, 1999, Erasmus
University Rotterdam.
2000-2007 Independent research in Pediatric Immunology. Development of three research lines:
„Reference values in pediatric immunology‟, „Diagnostic evaluation of suspected
immunodeficiency‟, and „Studies on the immune system in children with Down
syndrome‟. Collaboration with the Laboratory for Clinical Chemistry and Hematology
Jeroen Bosch Hospital `s-Hertogenbosch, the Department of Immunology Erasmus
Medical Center Rotterdam (prof. dr. J.J.M. van Dongen), the Laboratory for Pediatric
Immunology University Medical Center Leiden (dr. M.J.D. van Tol), and the
Laboratory for Pediatric Immunology Wilhelmina Childrens‟ Hospital Utrecht (dr. G.R.
Rijkers).
2007-now Head of Research Committee Jeroen Bosch Hospital (since 2007), and Coordinator of
JBZ Research Pillar „Cancer, Immunity, and Infection‟ (since 2009). Focus areas

research activities during residency. Supervisor of 1-2 medical students each year
during their 3-months of Research Internship. Supervisor of two pediatric residents
working in the research line ‘Reference values in pediatric immunology’, and three
pediatric residents working in the research line ‘Studies on the immune system in
children with Down syndrome’.
