Religious Liberty, Our First Most Cherished Liberty
In the spring of 2012, the Pharr Oratory Schools’ were blessed with the ordination of Fr. Nilton Wilfredo Cueto, C.O.,
born in Lima, Peru. He joined the Congregation of the Pharr Oratory in 2004 attending Holy Apostles College and
Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut. Since 1983, the Congregation of the Pharr Oratory had grown from one Oratorian
priest, Fr. Leo-Francis Daniels, C.O., to a community of five priests! Over the years we witnessed the ordination of
four novitiates : Rev. José Encarnación Losoya, C.O, Rev. Mario Alberto Avilés, C.O., Rev. José Juan Ortiz, C.O., and
Rev. Nilton Wilfredo Cueto, C.O.! Today, the Fathers serve the Oratory Schools as: Rector, Director, Academic
Counselor, Spiritual Director, Librarian,Teacher, Confessor, etc. God had blessed the Oratory and its schools. As the
schools’ reputation grew in academic excellence, the cities of McAllen, Mission, Hidalgo, San Juan, Edinburg, Alamo,
Donna, Weslaco, Reynosa, and Rio Bravo, became part of our Family.
Sadly, our joy turned to concern when the Catholic Church was placed on notice by the United States government. It
was at the brink of denying Americans their God-given and First Amendment
right of religious liberty! Suddenly churches, religious schools, universities,
synagogues, mosques, etc., were under scrutiny and threatened denial of
religious liberty. In response we must:
*Pray for all Americans who will suffer if religious freedom is denied.
*Prepare to defend our religious identity and ability to contribute to society.
*Peruse Church documents and fight discrimination toward religious rights.
*Prioritize this as an American issue affecting all faiths seeking the common
good of mankind.

Mission Statement / Misión
The Mission of the Pharr Oratory of St. Philip Neri School System is to promote the formation of Christian character,
Catholic lay leadership, Christian fellowship, and community service by integrating the Gospel message with a liberal
arts educational program in the spirit of the joy exemplified by its founder, Saint Philip Neri.
La misión del Sistema Escolar del Oratorio de San Felipe Neri de Pharr es el promover la formación del caracter
Cristiano, el liderazgo laico Católico, la asociacion Cristiana y el servicio comunitario a través de la integración del
mensaje del evangelio con un programa educativo de artes liberales con el espíritu de alegría de San Felipe Neri.

At a Glance / Al Vistazo
The Oratory Schools were founded in 1983 to provide a
Catholic, dual-language, classical education,
for the glory of God and His Mission.
Since the Oratory Academy first opened its doors in
1983, the Academy has grown from 15 students
to 364 students in 2012.
Founded in 1998, the Oratory Athenæum for University
Preparation has grown from 5 students to 203
students in 2012.
The Academy expands its Liberal Arts Curriculum to
incorporate Latin and Classical Literature.
Latin is taught from 2nd grade up to 8th grade. Classical
Studies begin in Kindergarten and continue up to 12th
grade.
Campus-wide Masses are celebrated every week.
The Athenæum offers Dual Enrollment and
Distance Learning Courses to those students
who meet the necessary qualifications.
The Senior Class of 2012 boasts two
National Hispanic Scholars and one
Commended National Merit Scholar.
During the 2011-2012 School Year, Oratory
students raised $72,145 for Tuition
Assistance with the Fall Festival, Walk-A-
Thon, & Breakfast Breaks.
As a member of TAPPS, the Athenæum offers
American Football, Boys’ and Girls’
Soccer, and Cheerleading.
Every student in the Class of 2012 was accepted to an
institution of higher learning: Baylor University,
University of Dallas, Incarnate Word University,
Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), Our
Lady of the Lake University, Rice University,
Northwestern University, Texas A & M
University, College Station, etc.
Schools’ Web Site features a bilingual Quality
Survey whereby parents use Google Docs to give an
informal rating of our School Services.
