Mission
The mission of the Philadelphia Senior Center (PSC) is to assist
people in meeting their basic needs and enhancing their quality of
life. PSC assists older adults in optimizing their functional ability and
provides them with opportunities for active involvement, helping
to prevent isolation and dependence. PSC also seeks to improve
conditions for those older adults who are impoverished. PSC provides
leadership in advocating on issues affecting the lives of older adults.
Why we need your support?
PSC helps thousands of people, age 55+, each year by creating
opportunities and providing resources to live healthy, active lives
while remaining independent in their homes and community. With
the help of nearly 200 volunteers, PSC serves 1,000 elderly people
a week through its main branch, as well as the Coffee Cup satellite
and the Tioga branch. Almost 70,000 meals are served annually
in the dining rooms, while upwards of 80 classes and activities are
conducted weekly. Nearly 2,200 homebound persons also receive
care from our social services team, while hundreds who live in
senior housing are aided by our outreach and homemaker services.
Specialized services offered or provided include housing assistance,
legal aid, tax preparation, counseling, and financial management
services. Program activities help participants speak new languages;
learn about computers; discuss history and government; perform
live on stage; create a sculpture; learn new dance steps; travel to
new places; and more.
Contributions to the “4th Coffee Cup Exhibition” support these
activities, as well as the intangible benefits PSC provides – leadership,
volunteerism and companionship. Over a cup of coffee, in advisory
council meetings, on a bus trip, during a class…Members are
developing new skills; Members are experiencing personal growth;
Members are building support systems; Members are giving back
to the community; Members are developing a community.
Your support of our work helps make all of this possible for
thousands of seniors and their families each year - and hundreds
of thousands of seniors and their families since 1949.
