Company History<br />
The Ken <strong>Newman</strong> family started Anniston <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Supply</strong>, <strong>Inc</strong>. in May,<br />
1980 after being in the business for 21 years. At this time, Anniston <strong>Industrial</strong><br />
<strong>Supply</strong>, <strong>Inc</strong>. was located at 300 West 15 th Street, Anniston, AL with<br />
approximately 15,000-sq. ft. of warehouse to operate from.<br />
The start up consisted of 3 employees: Ken <strong>Newman</strong>, Bobbie <strong>Newman</strong>,<br />
and son Mike <strong>Newman</strong>. Anniston <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Supply</strong>, <strong>Inc</strong>. began to grow<br />
immediately and by the end of 1980 the <strong>com</strong>pany had grown to 6 employees; 4<br />
outside, one inside salesperson and Bobbie <strong>Newman</strong> seeing to daily operations<br />
inside. As the <strong>com</strong>pany continued to grow it needed to purchase its first<br />
<strong>com</strong>puter in 1982 in order to streamline daily accounting operations. By the<br />
summer of 1983 the <strong>com</strong>pany enjoyed it’s first 100,000 sales month.<br />
The <strong>com</strong>pany’s growth was made possible by adding value to the<br />
products sold unlike other <strong>com</strong>petitors in the area at that time. The <strong>com</strong>pany only<br />
worked with local <strong>com</strong>panies in a 60-mile radius.<br />
The growth of the <strong>com</strong>pany spurred management to relocate to a larger<br />
facility on November 28, 1983 with a warehouse space of 20,000 square feet and<br />
room to grow if needed. The new location is much more central in the city at 630<br />
Noble Street, Anniston, AL.<br />
With the additional warehouse space and added personnel, new<br />
customers, the <strong>com</strong>pany purchased the most advanced <strong>com</strong>puter system in<br />
<strong>Industrial</strong> Distribution, a “Prophet 21” <strong>com</strong>puter system.<br />
Also, in 1984, the <strong>com</strong>pany grew it’s sales to better than 250,000 per<br />
month. The continued growth required management to open its first branch in<br />
Madison, AL in order to serve its rapidly growing customer base during 1986.<br />
After the opening of the Madison Branch, the management needed to<br />
change the name to <strong>Newman</strong> <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Supply</strong>, <strong>Inc</strong>. The name change opened<br />
up the possibility to grow into other geographic regions.<br />
During 1991 the <strong>com</strong>pany needed to expand its Anniston warehouse by<br />
adding an additional 10,000 square feet to stock Castrol products.<br />
In 2004, <strong>Newman</strong> <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Supply</strong>, LLC was open in Montgomery, AL to<br />
cover the central and southern parts of Alabama.<br />
Because the management has been good listeners to customer’s<br />
requests, it has added a full Business-to-Business Web Site hosted by Prophet<br />
21. This continued reinvestment has kept <strong>Newman</strong> <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Supply</strong>, <strong>Inc</strong>. ahead<br />
of its <strong>com</strong>petitors.<br />
The <strong>com</strong>pany is active in various forms of integrated supply. One being<br />
consigned inventory that enables <strong>Newman</strong>’s salespeople to manage min/max<br />
inventory at a customer’s site. <strong>Newman</strong> <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Supply</strong>, <strong>Inc</strong>. also does<br />
inventory management at a customer's location with specialized invoicing.
<strong>Newman</strong> <strong>Industrial</strong> <strong>Supply</strong>, <strong>Inc</strong>. does specialize in military hardware,<br />
cutting tools, abrasives, fasteners, coolants, fluids, and MRO items.<br />
By being flexible and meeting customer’s needs, <strong>Newman</strong> <strong>Industrial</strong><br />
<strong>Supply</strong>, <strong>Inc</strong>. will continue to grow profitably and remain a major supplier in the<br />
market place.
