ESSEnTiAl inFormATion<br />
Costs<br />
You will be required to remit two separate sums to the <strong>University</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> for participation in the Athens Summer School.<br />
<strong>The</strong> first amount <strong>of</strong> $3250 (based on a minimum enrolment <strong>of</strong> 15<br />
and current currency exchange rates) represents the in-country<br />
costs <strong>of</strong> your stay in Greece. This includes:<br />
– Twin-share self catering accommodation at Australian<br />
Archaeological Institute hostel in Athens or at other foreign<br />
archaeological institute hostels<br />
– Overnight accommodation in Delphi<br />
– Site and museum entrance fees<br />
– In-country transport to sites and museums in itinerary<br />
– Membership <strong>of</strong> the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens<br />
– Library use in Athens<br />
– Six picnic lunches and two taverna dinners<br />
<strong>The</strong> cost does not include your return airfare to Greece, which<br />
you should organise independently.<br />
A deposit <strong>of</strong> $500 will be required to reserve your place in the<br />
Summer School, and the balance <strong>of</strong> payment will be due 60 days<br />
prior to departure.<br />
<strong>The</strong> second sum payable to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> will be your<br />
Summer School tuition fee. Although the 2013 levy is not yet<br />
known, the 2012 indicative fee is $3310 for undergraduates and<br />
$3000 for postgraduates. FEE-HELP is available to enrolled<br />
Australian undergraduate and postgraduate students.<br />
Credit points<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> students can earn 6 senior credit points<br />
by undertaking this Summer School in lieu <strong>of</strong> ARCA2613<br />
(undergraduates) and ARCL 6902 (postgraduates). All students<br />
enrolling in the Summer School for credit will be required to complete<br />
specified assignments both in Athens and on return to Australia.<br />
Non <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> students should discuss accreditation<br />
with their home institutions.<br />
Bursaries<br />
A number <strong>of</strong> bursaries to <strong>of</strong>fset the cost <strong>of</strong> participation in the<br />
Summer School will be available to successful applicants who<br />
would not otherwise be able to participate. If you wish to apply<br />
for a bursary, please enclose a letter to Dr Beaumont explaining<br />
your reasons for applying. Please note, you may also be eligible<br />
to apply for scholarships such as Marion Macaulay Bequest<br />
Scholarship for overseas studies in Arts and Education. See<br />

Summer School in Athens.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Summer School is a unique<br />
opportunity to study the archaeology<br />
and history <strong>of</strong> ancient Athens at<br />
first hand. With a particular focus<br />
on the Archaic and Classical periods<br />
(ca. 630-323 B.C.) and under<br />
expert tuition, you will enjoy formal<br />
lectures integrated with daily visits to<br />
archaeological sites and museums in<br />
Athens and Attica. You will also travel<br />
further afield to the panhellenic<br />
sanctuary <strong>of</strong> Apollo at Delphi.<br />
<strong>The</strong> course is open to students<br />
<strong>of</strong> Australian universities and to<br />
Australian high school teachers.<br />
