4-H is a youth education program of the Cooperative Extension Service - a
program that offers skills and training to tomorrow’s leaders. This informal
information education program is conducted by the U.S. Department of
Agriculture, University of Florida, Florida A&M University and the county
governments, and combines the work of federal, state, and local Extension
staff and volunteer leaders.
The mission of 4-H is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing
life skills and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing,
productive and contributing members of society.
The 4-H program is open to all interested youth regardless of race, color,
sex, creed, national origin or handicap. Participants are between the ages of
five and eighteen and reside in every demographic area; farm, city, and in
between. The success of the 4-H program is attributed to the nearly 10,000
volunteer leaders who are backed by the strong educational base of the
University of Florida staff in every county in Florida.
