This I Believe
It is not what we know, but what we believe that determines what we do.
It is through the understanding of the 4-H objectives and principles that the
4-H Club leader can best contribute to the basic development of the 4-H boy or
girl.
All leaders in the 4-H program might well compare their 4-H objectives and
their own beliefs with the ones listed here.
The 4-H boy or girl is more important than the 4-H project.
4-H is not trying to replace the home, the church or the school - only
supplement.
A 4-Her should be his or her own best exhibit.
No 4-H award is worth sacrificing the reputation of a 4-H member or leader.
Competition is a natural human trait, and should be recognized as such, but should
not be over emphasized in 4-H club work.
Learning how to do the project is more important than the project itself.
Many things are caught rather than taught.
A blue ribbon 4-H boy with a red ribbon pig is more desirable than a red
boy with a blue ribbon pig.

To “learn by doing” is fundamental in any sound educational program and
characteristic of the 4-H program.
Generally speaking, there is more than one good way of doing most things.
Every 4-H member needs to be noticed, to feel important, to win and to be praised.
Our job is to teach 4-H members how to think, not what to think.
