MILLTHOPE PUBLIC SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER
Principal’s News
Welcome back everyone!
There have been a few changes in the school
grounds over the holidays, with the relocation
of the demountable buildings. I did tell the
children that someone had stolen our classrooms,
and that a crime scene had been
established. We are hoping to discover the
where-abouts of our classrooms soon.
Changes to routines
Due to the demountable movements, there
are no library lessons. Students can borrow
and return books during lunch-hour on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Remember we have cancelled Senior percussion,
senior and junior craft, and Rock band
after school while we get our spaces sorted
out.
Active After School Communities Activities -
“Sing, Dance, Move” will move into the hall
starting Tuesday 24th (3.15 - 4.15) for Year 1
and Kindergarten students, and Thursday 26th
for years 2 - 6 students, starting next week.
Boomerang Street is a handy drop-off and
collection spot with ample parking for parents,
or you can choose to walk through the
school grounds to collect your children. Miss
Jasmines other dance classes will move into
the school hall as of next week also.
The school Concert band will have their
lessons in the hall with Mrs Byles from this
Thursday.
Tennis will run on Mondays, after school,
3.15—4.15 put your names down in the office
quickly, as there are only 20 spaces. Lawn
bowls will be on Fridays, initially at school, and
afterwards at the Bowling Club. Both will start
in week 2 . We need a few more names for
lawn bowls….. I know it’s different, but Mr
Goodacre will make bowls fun for you, and
vary the games you will play, Go On, Give it
a go!
Whooping Cough
Thanks-you to all those families who had their
children tested (and in some cases diag-
nosed) with Whooping Cough over the holiday
break. I would like to reinforce that once children
have been tested, after a five day course of antibiotics
they are no longer infectious, and can
return to school. If students are undiagnosed, and
untreated with antibiotics, they remain infectious
for 3 weeks. Undiagnosed and untreated children
may not appear to be particularly sick, but can
still be carriers, spreading the disease much further
through our community. Even if your children
present with a slight cough, or runny nose, please
ask that they are tested and treated for Whooping
Cough.
State Cross Country
Congratulations to Jesse Ryan and Max Kay who
are representing Western Region, and Millthorpe
Public School in the State Cross Country carnival
at Eastern Creek this Friday. Go guys!
Boys Softball
Good Luck fellas, in your games today
(Wednesday) and Well Done Miss Henderson. My
thanks also to the very mature students of KH,
who are “used to being split-up” when Miss Henderson
is taking the seniors to softball, and of
course the wonderful parents who are driving the
boys into their games.
Toys in the Playground
We are having issues with toys in the playground,
and their appropriate use. We must remind children
and parents, that toys in the playground are
frequently lost, and occasionally broken. We
can’t accept responsibility for damage to sometimes
expensive and well loved toys when they
used in the playground. We are also aware that
mum and dad might not always be aware of the
expensive toys coming to school, and this could
be a cause for friction. Currently, with the demountables
being resited, the sand pit (a favourite
spot for toy games) is not available, and I
would encourage you to ask your children to
leave their toys at home, until we have the library
open at lunch-times, when we will invite the toys
and their owners into play, in a cleaner, safer,
supervised space, where toys are safe, and appropriate
play can be monitored by teachers .
Boys and Girls Soccer Games
Good luck girls and boys in your games against Bowen Public
School this Friday. Well done Mr Mason, for your coaching
and planning. Let’s Go Millthorpe! Lets Go!
Harold’s Back!
The life education van is here! The students are enjoying their
visits to Healthy Harold, he is apparently as cheeky as ever,
and rather sleepy in the mornings. See the information about
merchandise in this newsletter.
Beyond the Line
Next week, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we are
hosting 4 visiting teachers from Macquarie University. These
student teachers have volunteered to come to Western NSW
Region to have a taste of working in a rural school. Our evil
plan is to entice more city students to work in the country.
Please make them feel welcome.
Our next assembly is for years 3 - 6, in THE NEW HALL, on Friday
27TH July. From 2pm - 3pm. The performance will be by 5/6
8pm till late. There will be tables of 10, and even enough
young and old) will have a wonderful opportunity to enjoy
the energy and expertise of “Arabesk”.Cost for the Workshop
and concert is $15 per head.
Save the date
Education week is week 3, with activities being planned at
school on Tuesday 31st July. Although we don’t have final
details yet, the afternoon will include a parents video conference
session with1D, and a presentation by our Pre2 coordinator,
Colleen Alchin,
There is talk of displays in the hall, and slide shows, as well as
performances, and the possibility of a sausage sizzle at lunch
-time. Save the date, take some time off work, and come
into school to see what wonderful things the children and
teachers have been up to.
Kind Regards
Jo Jackett
Tom Taylor receiving his gold banner from the students
for great work in constructing our new hall. Peter Archer
also received a gold banner for being a great foreman
on the job but is currently in Broken Hill so we will pass
it on to him later ….

Welcome back to Term 3 Groovy Rockers! Tuesday afternoon Rockband with Mrs Gray will not begin until
approximately week 4, depending on the school building moves. I will place a note in the newsletter when we
are able to commence rocking again! This term there are some changes to Rockband. So that we can form a
more cohesive group, I have decided to raise the age of members to only Year 4,5 & 6. Students can audi-
tion, and will be expected to stay with their instrument, or be in their role of singer for most songs. There
will be a smaller number of students in Rockband this term to allow effective playing and practise. Looking
forward to rocking up a storm very soon. Keep your eyes posted to the newsletter for further updates. Roll

Strategic Plan for Millthorpe. This will be a plan for,
and owned by, the entire community and inform
Blayney Shire Council (and other State Government
Departments) of our future community requirements
and aged care facilities, access to sustainable water,
energy and waste management, development
of rail infrastructure & public transport, viable business
P&C Presidents Weekly Report
Welcome back to term 3. As you have no doubt noticed, the 3 end demountables have been moved, and only
just in time to beat the wet weather, which would have hampered the mammoth operation. It was an amazing
site to see sections of classroom swinging through the air on the end of a gigantic crane, but it is not finished
yet. Work is still continuing to hook up power, data, etc and to make them liveable again. This should take a
couple of weeks during which time there will be some disruption to normal school activities. Some of the
playground is still fenced off as they repair the inevitable scars from the vehicles involved in the mammoth
task.
I hope you were as pleased as I was with the first event in our new hall. Although it wasn’t quite finished, we
got special permission to hold the combined assembly in it and it is a great space with the potential for so
much use by our school and community. Don’t forget the “unofficial” opening celebration for our new hall
on Saturday 28 th of July with Rob Shannons amazing band “Arabesk”. The event will have a gypsy theme and
the cost will be $25 per head. Any profit made will be used to start equipping the hall.
At the final assembly the Markets committee officially presented the staff with their new coffee machine and
the P&C kicked in a supply of their favourite pods. If you are looking for cheap easy way to say thank you to
your child’s teacher then next time you’re doing the groceries, consider picking up some Nespresso coffee
pods. Their favourites are Ristretto, Arpeggio and Roma.
Don’t forget that the P&C meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 6.30pm in the library. The
next P&C meeting will be on the 1 st of August. ALL parents are welcome.
