The countries with the fastest growing economies offer a chance for established western companies to increase sales by entering these markets. For some industries (whose stock in trade is intellectual property) entering these markets can offer special challenges as well as bring opportunities. The consumers in these countries have a thirst for knowledge, but personal income, compared on a world scale is low; creating an atmosphere for rampant piracy. This is one of the great challenges for companies entering global markets: How to bring great ideas, services or products to people who see the value but are unable to afford the price? Simply cutting the price is no solution. Developing low cost alternatives for markets that need simple solutions and reserving the high-quality applications where quality is a must can result in advantages for everyone. That is why we work with European associations and participate in R & D projects, partially sponsored by German BMBF, BMWi or the European Community. Innovation against product piracy is the theme of a project which targets the protection of machines and plants and the whole manufacturing process. It also encompasses the protection of production data, making it impossible, for example, to produce a “knock-off” of a LACOSTE polo shirt with the original data. Therefore, Share Your Key, a licensing system for programs and the data of different creators, will be used in the production of a plant and could also in the building industry or in the music and game industries as well.
