Our Higher Education courses come without the high 

fees of university, and allow you time to work as well 

as study. They are a combination of college-based 

study and e-learning, and courses are designed to run 

as stand-alone one-year programmes, giving you a 

fully recognised qualification at the end of each year.

This is a broad based practical art and design qualification which is ideal for students who are seeking an alternative to a Foundation Degree or Degree course and who wish to combine study

Introduction to Bicycle Maintenance 

This 5 week bicycle maintenance programme focuses on basic skills needed to keep your bike running. In this course you will learn how to work safely in maintaining the following systems 

including: puncture repair/type replacement, adjusting rim brakes, chain tensioning and cleaning, wheel hub maintenance and maintaining headsets. You will also learn about the essential 

safety checks and setting up your riding position correctly. You will work on a range of different bicycles and learn how to diagnose and rectify typical faults. The course is very hands on and

based at CRC that offers employers an alternative way to 

employ an Apprentice. If your company is experiencing 

short term contracts, recruitment freezes, head count

we can help you. All we ask is that you agree to host the 

Apprentice for a minimum period of four months and 

support their development.

SKILLS MATRIX 

The Skills Matrix is a Supportive Education programme for learners with 

moderate to severe learning difficulties. The course is designed to enable 

learners to develop skills in a variety of different areas and can be either a 

part-time course (1-3 days per week) or full-time (4 days per week). 

On the part-time programme, learners can choose from a 

good variety of practical activities and, depending on their 

area of study, gain a qualification within one year. 

On the full-time programme, learners can still make a 

number of choices from the range of practical options, but 

will also have the opportunity to develop their English and 

Maths skills, spend time with their personal tutor and develop 

more knowledge of citizenship within their local community. 

There are different funding rules for different age groups; 

these rules also depend on how many days a week you wish 

to attend college and how many years you have already 

been in education. Please be aware that, whatever your 

choice, we will be able to provide information about the 

fees required at Cambridge Regional College.

Our Cambridge International Centre offers a comprehensive range of English courses from 

beginner to proficiency level. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSES 

You are able to start your course throughout the year to suit your needs, with courses starting from 14th September. These are 

designed for those who need to improve their English for employment or educational purposes.

Beginner/ESOL Pre-Entry 

This course is for people with little or no knowledge of English and teaches practical language that can be used immediately in everyday situations. 

Elementary/ESOL Entry 1 

This course is for people who can already express basic ideas and opinions in simple English. It is not for people who cannot speak any English. 

Pre-Intermediate/ESOL Entry 2/KET 

This course is for people who have the necessary basic understanding of the language to start expressing themselves more effectively both in speaking and writing and who can start reading 

longer texts and understand more complicated speech. 

Intermediate ESOL/Entry 3/PET 

This course is for people who are able to speak and write quite fluently in known topics, but need to improve their accuracy and their range. This course will also enable students to develop 

the skills needed for PET and IELTS 

Upper Intermediate ESOL/Level 1/FCE 

This class is for people who can demonstrate sound knowledge of the basic principles of English and are able to express some ideas and opinions on topics they may not be familiar with. 

This course will also help students develop the skills and knowledge needed for the FCE and IELTS. 

Advanced/ESOL Level 2/CAE 

This is a class for advanced students. You will develop all your skills in English to reach a high degree of competence, using English effectively in social and professional situations and 

in higher education. You will be able to deal with complex forms of language and communicate in various situations requiring sophisticated language. This course will also help students 

preparing for the University of Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or IELTS. Learn how to develop all your skills in English to reach a high degree of competence. 

Proficiency in English (CPE) 

Designed for students preparing for the University of Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or IELTS. These qualifications are highly regarded and often required by employers 

and higher education institutions in Britain. 

IELTS Preparation 

British Universities and Colleges require you to have a good academic IELTS score as an entry requirement. This course teaches you successful exam techniques and study skills to help you 

achieve your goal. 

ENGLISH FOR SPECIAL 

PURPOSES 

In addition to the above English courses, we offer courses 

in English for Science, Engineering, Tourism, Management, 

Medicine etc. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE

We run a number of short courses with optional activities 

offered for afternoons and weekends. Participation is 

based on a 2-week minimum period but can be extended 

up to 8 weeks.

IGCSE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 

IGCSE are internationally recognised qualifications that are the same level and standard as GCSE but with an international perspective. The IGCSE qualification is accepted by British Schools 

and colleges when determining a student’s suitability to study on Further Education (FE) Programmes including A Levels and University Foundation Programmes. 

We offer packages in Business and Science. Each package consists of 5 subjects including English and Mathematics. Students studying for two years will take a final externally assessed 

examination at the end of the second year programme. 

CELTA 

Certificate in English Language Leaching to Adults 

This course is aimed at those who want to become professional teachers of English Language. It is an internationally recognised qualification, awarded by Cambridge ESOL and accepted by 

employers throughout the world. The main focus of the course is the basic techniques of teaching the English language and how they are applied in the classroom.

Celta Online 

The course is made up of an orientation module which is an introduction to the course and will give trainees the tools to be successful on the course. Trainees will then have to work on 30 

units of online interactive material. A timetable is published and trainees have to abide by the deadlines. Forum and live room tasks are integrated into the course. Trainees therefore need to 

attend appointments (either for real, when they carry out their classroom observations, for example) or virtual (online). Trainees are supported by an online course tutor who will help them 

and check that they are on target to complete their units as planned so that they can fully benefit from the teaching practice at the training centre. Each trainee has to complete 6 hours of 

supervised teaching practice. They also complete peer observations and they have to observe experienced teachers. 

A LEVELS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 

GCE Advanced level (A Level) is the UK national qualification which is used by British Universities to determine an applicant’s suitability for acceptance on an Undergraduate Degree 

programme. The quality of the A Level qualification is recognised throughout the world. Success at A Level allows students to choose the right University and Degree from every UK University. 

If you have exceptional academic ability, your ambition might be to graduate to either Oxford or Cambridge University or a Uk medical school. We offer packages in the following areas of study:

UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION PROGRAMMES (UFP) 

This course provides an intensive, fast-track route to a university place in just one year. You can choose to start in September (3 terms) or January (2 terms), enabling you to choose the best 

time to start depending on your own personal circumstances. The programme is particularly suited to students aged 17 or over who are willing to study hard on an intensive course and need 

English support and study skills to enable them to succeed at university.

Please note that fee advice should only be taken from

payable at the time of enrolment unless they total more 

than £350, when you can pay 4 instalments by Direct Debit

FREE TUITION 

FREE TUITION on courses leading to full Level 2 or Level 

3 qualifications 

If you currently do not hold a full Level 2 or Level 3 or higher 

qualification, you might not have to pay for tuition. 

The Level 2 Entitlement applies if you are under 24 on 

31/08/15. 

It does not matter whether you are in employment or not. 

No catches as long as you do not currently have a full Level 

2 or higher qualification, you are eligible! What’s more, if 

you are aged 19 on 31 August but not yet 24 when you 

start your learning programme and do not have a full Level 

3 qualification, you could be entitled to FREE TUITION on a 

significant number of courses in this prospectus. 

Foundation Learning (Entry or Level 1 excluding Skills for Life) 

is fully funded if you are under 24 on 31/08/15 and have not 

achieved a Level 2 and need the additional step in order 

to progress to Level 2, otherwise co-funded.

BURSARY 

The college is able to offer eligible learners financial support 

through the Discretionary Bursary Fund. The Discretionary 

Bursary Fund is available to assist students who are 

experiencing financial hardship to assist with a wide range 

of study costs, including equipment, books, transport and 

other expenses associated with learning. 

There is a separate specific fund to assist with childcare.

TERMS & CONDITIONS 

Students under 16 years 

The college is not funded for students under 16 years and the fees in this prospectus do not apply to students who 

are under 16 years at 31 August 2015. Students under 16 years who are enrolled on a part-time course will be 

charged a tuition rate of £6.60 per hour (other costs may apply, for example registration fee or exams). 

Students aged 16, 17 or 18 years 

If you are a home student enrolling onto an EFA funded programme aged 16 years or over (but under 19 years 

of age on 31 August 2015), you will not be charged any fees for your course, with the exemption of non-funded 

courses and specific course related materials, equipment or trips. You may be required to pay for exam resits. 

Students aged 19 years or over 

You will be charged fees at rates set annually by the college. Due to funding restrictions some courses have 

different fees if you are 24 years or over. If you are a home student, you may be eligible for fee concessions (for 

SFA funded courses) if you meet one of the criteria below and sign a declaration form (available from the college) 

at the time of enrolment and if the course is eligible for concessions. Courses not eligible for concessions are 

marked with a .

Enrolment 

Students will not be admitted to classes unless they have enrolled and paid the appropriate fee, or arranged for 

their employers or other authorities to be invoiced. A class may not run unless there is a minimum number of 

students. 

Course fees 

Please note that fee advice should only be taken from the Finance or Student Administration offices. All fees are 

payable at the time of enrolment unless they total more than £350, when you can pay in 4 equal instalments by 

Direct Debit only. Special arrangements may be possible on request from Finance office. 

For students studying LR programmes, if your employer/sponsor has agreed to pay your fees, please provide 

evidence of their intent at enrolment. Please be aware that you will be liable for payment of the course fees if your 

employer/sponsor subsequently fails to provide payment upon receipt of invoice. 

For students studying ER programmes your employer will be responsible for paying your course fees as per the 

training quotation signed by them. 

Payment by instalments 

A completed and signed Direct Debit form must be presented with your first instalment. Failure to complete the 

form will result in us being unable to complete your enrolment. You will make the first payment at enrolment 

followed by three consecutive monthly payments. The exception of this is where a programme lasts for less than 

16 weeks, where a different instalment plan can be arranged. 

Please note: should you choose to withdraw from the course, you will still be expected to pay any 

outstanding instalments. 

Refunds 

A refund of any course fees already paid is only available in the following circumstances: 

• If the college closes a class due to insufficient enrolments and is unable to offer a suitable alternative. 

• If you withdraw from a course due to ill health and a doctor has certified you too unwell to continue

Discretionary Bursary Fund 

The Discretionary Bursary Fund is available to assist students who are experiencing financial hardship to assist 

with a wide range of study costs, including equipment, books, fees, transport and other expenses associated with 

learning. There is also a specific fund to assist with childcare. 

Examinations 

Students are responsible for ensuring an examination entry form is submitted before our advertised closing date. 

In some instances late entries cannot be accepted. Students who withdraw from the course or who are absent 

from or who do not fulfil the course work or other requirements for any examinations for which they were granted 

a free entry will be required to reimburse the full fees. The only exception to this is if the circumstances arise from 

medical reasons and a doctor certifies this. Students who pay for their examination and subsequently withdraw 

or do not attend for 6 weeks prior to the examination will not be allowed into the examination unless the absence 

from the course is certified by a doctor. 

Privacy Statement 

The personal information you provide is passed to the Chief Executive of Skills Funding (“the Skills Funding 

Agency”) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Where necessary it is also shared with the 

Department for Education, including the Education Funding Agency. 

The information is used for the exercise of the functions of these government departments and to meet statutory 

responsibilities, including under the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009, and to create and 

maintain an unique learner number (ULN) and a Personal Learning Record (PLR) The information you provide may 

be shared with other organisations for education, training, employment and well-being related purposes, including 

for research.

Disclosure of Convictions 

Cambridge Regional College aims to be equitable and to meet the legal obligations of the Rehabilitation of Offenders 

act 1974, the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Human Rights Act.
