STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCEE AND MANAGEMENT (continued)
Governance
The
Trustees are involved in and approve key strategic decisions, including
strategic plans
and major funder projects orr activities affecting the Charity’s C reputation, finances or ability
to
support young people. Operational decisions are made m by the Senior Management Team
(SMT), with new
areas of work, policies
and procedures taken to the trustees for discussion
and approval. Trustees alsoo approve the annual budget and monitor expenditure against
income and cash
flow at every Board meeting.
The Trustees meet regularly
(5 – 6 times a
year). The SMT
meet fortnightly, including a monthly finance meeting. Regular meetings
are also held with the Treasurer, usually prior to the Board meetings, to review the monthly
accounts, cash flow and monitor reserves.
Involving young
people is a vital part of
YouthNet’s approach and ensures that they directly
inform the development off our services to meet the t needs off young people. Through
advisory groups, , in-depth research and engaging our online communities
and volunteers,
YouthNet directly involves young people in our service development and delivery. This
ensures a user-centred approach and that a youth-led influencee is carried throughout the
organisation, its projects and services.
YouthNet’s approach has always been to collaborate and increase its impact by working with
others. As partt of this, wee have strategic advisory groups for key projects, where either
YouthNet leads, or is a partner, working with keyy stakeholders such as funders, f partner
voluntary organisations or users, to bring wider expertise, advice and feedback to ensure
effective delivery.
YouthNet has one wholly-owned subsidiary – TheSite Limited.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
In 2011/12, the board and senior management changed YouthNet’s objects to
describe more
clearly the publicc benefit of the organisation’s work. Our objects are;
To preserve the
health and well being of young people, improve their advancement and
conditions in life and develop their capabilities, enabling them to participate in society
as
independent and
valued individuals.
Our
aim is to empower young people with the support, knowledge and skills they need
to
be able to lead fulfilling lives and make positive contributions
to our communities.
To
achieve this, YouthNet’s approach is to
provide holistic support across the range of inter-
and
related issues in
a tone and style that is right forr them, made available whenever wherever they need it. As well as to
connect them to opportunities to volunteer and
develop skills, build their selff esteem and be valued inn their communities.
We look to achieve this through our two
services; TheSite.org and Do-it.org. uk.
To ensure we deliver and shape our services to meet young people’s needs, YouthNet aims
