Preface This book titled “Provincial Statistical Information 2009” was compiled by the Provincial Planning Secretariat of the Northern Provincial Council with statistical information collected from both Central and Provincial Agencies. This is the second publication in the series. This publication will immensly help those involved in planning, administration, Non-governmental and other activities connected with relief, resettlement, rehabilitation and reconstruction work, especially in the Northern Province when these activities are undertaken in full swing under the accelerated resettlement programme of the Government. While expressing my gratitute to those involved in the preparation of this publication led by Deputy Chief Secretary / Planning Mr.R.Umakanthan and his team comprising Mrs.T.Ragumohan, Assistant Director of Planning, Mr.G.Thavendran, Programme Assistant and Mr.K.Kumaresan .
