Blithe Spirit by
Fateemoh,Asiah and
Amira
For this minor performance, our group was divided into two small units because we have to perform
as trio. We were given an extract of drama script of ‘Blithe Spirit’ to perform. We were the second
unit; Siti Asiah Binti Muhamad Subri as Charles, Siti Amirah Binti Tukimin as Elvira, and Fateemoh
Salaeh as Ruth. Every trio has to perform the same scene from the drama. However, we were free
to interpret that particular given scene based on our understanding.
The scene given to us was like this; Charles and Ruth were fighting because Charles kept bringing
up about his late wife, Elvira. He can see Elvira but Ruth cannot. Elvira, being a woman as she is
kept telling Charles to let go of Ruth, Charles’ current wife.
We were free to create the beginning and the ending of that particular scene. For our trio
performance, the performance started with a scene where Charles and Elvira were talking alone it
ended with happy ending for the married couple; Charles and Ruth. Charles brought home
something given by his friend, a ‘Musyaf’ of an Islamic prayer. Due to that, he unintentionally
barred Elvira from entering the house.
This minor performance trained us on concentration. In this particular minor performance, we learnt
to concentrate and focus. We have to stay in order to not ruin the performance. We have to
memorize our lines and other members’ lines as well. This is very important because when we forgot
our lines, we were actually affecting other people’s lines. Everyone memorized their lines and any
keywords as a sign of when they were supposed to say their lines or interrupting.
We have to take turns and make sure to stay focus while performing. It will affect the whole flow of
the story if someone made even a slight mistake while performing. In a nutshell, we learnt to be
responsible not just for our own but for others as well.
