Rialto Food Market
Date: Saturday, 13 June
The Mercato del Rialto is probably
the city’s most important food market.
Since 1097, Venetians have depended
on the Rialto markets for
their daily supplies. These days, visitors
stock up with ingredients for the
weekend every Friday and Saturday.
Here they can shop for prosciutto,
cheese and bread for a picnic or pop
into one of the traders’ bars. As the
market is open to the public, it is the
perfect opportunity for visitors to
wander through stalls that are piled
high with fine Mediterranean specialties.
They can also discover and
sample local seafood, fruits, vegetables
and other treats.
Aquae Venice is a collateral event
of the Expo Milano 2015, following
the theme “Feeding the World”. The
event is probably the largest event
ever in the world to focus on food and
nutrition. This universal exhibition in
Venice is dedicated to the topic of water
where it aims to describe, in a simple,
experiential, educational and interactive
way, how and why water deeply
influences our lives. The exhibition also
explains the way in which wa ter supply
the world in the following de cades.
