WELCOME 

Welcome to the Elstead Riding Club (ERC) Events Schedule for 2011. The events listed 

in this schedule are open to non-members, however, if you would like to join ERC we are 

always pleased to welcome new members. Our members benefit from a variety of 

instruction at our club field and also special members only competitions. We also enter 

teams and organise social and fun events.

• THE CLUB FIELD WILL BE OPENED ONE HOUR BEFORE FIRST CLASS ON 

SHOW DAYS AND MAY BE LOCKED AS SOON AS ½ HOUR AFTER THE 

LAST CLASS FINISHES 

• THERE IS NO WATER SUPPLY AT THE FIELD 

• HATS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHEN MOUNTED AND SHOULD BE 

TO THE MINIMUM STANDARD WITH HARNESS PROPERLY ADJUSTED AND 

FASTENED. The minimum standard includes hats marked EN1384 or PAS015, 

ASTM F1163, BSEN14572:2005 or SEI, American standard SNELL E2001, 

ASTM95, SNZ3838 1998.

1. All members are governed by the Club's Constitution, which is sent to all new 

members. 

2. Membership is accepted at the discretion of the Committee. 

3. It is hoped that all members will help at a minimum of two events per year.

CLASS 2 PAIRS JUMPING - 0.70 - 0.75m 

One of the cross country fences will be a designated ‘dressing’ fence 

and competitors should attempt to jump this as a pair for bonus 

marks 

CLASS 3 INTERMEDIATE JUMPING - 0.75 - 0.85m 

The course for all classes is part show jumps and part cross country jumps. Each 

competitor will start over a short course of six show jumps and then jump approximately 

eight cross country fences, followed by a further six show jumps. There will be an 

optimum time for the cross country section and where there is equality of faults the 

nearest to the optimum time will decide the results. 

NB. All riders must wear a body protector and a medical armband.

Class 2 - £21 (ERC members £18.00)

RULES AND REGULATIONS 

1. All events will be run in accordance with The British Riding Club Rule Book 

2. The decision of the Judge is final 

3. Any objection must be made in writing within 30 minutes of the incident, accompanied 

by a deposit of £20 which will be refunded if the objection is sustained 

4. Neither the organisers nor the Hampton Estate accept liability for any claims in 

respect of injury or damage to any person, animal or property, however caused 

5. The organisers reserve the right to amend the schedule as necessary 

6. The organisers reserve the right to reject or cancel any entry made by any person or 

cancel any class (refunding any fees paid less £2 per competitor to cover 

administrative expenses) 

7. All entry fees must accompany entry forms 

8. No entries will be refunded without a Vet or Doctor's Certificate 

9. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times whilst in the Club Field 

10. Hats must be worn at all times when mounted. MUST wear a hard hat to at least the 

minimum standard, with a harness properly adjusted and fastened. Hats marked 

EN1384, PASO15:1998, ASTM F1163, BSEN14572:2005 or SEI. American standard 

SNELL E2001, ASTM 95, SNZ3838 1998. Skullcap hats must be worn with a silk. 

Such headgear must be worn with harness properly adjusted and fastened. Failure to 

do so will incur elimination 

11. All competitors must wear the correct riding clothes whilst competing and exercising at 

competitions 

12. Stewards' instructions must be followed 

13. Misuse of whips or spurs will incur elimination. Blatant use of bad language may result 

in the competitor being eliminated and/or barred from further competitions 

14. Children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult 

15. Horses must be kept to a walk unless in the warm-up or competition arenas 

16. The organisers reserve the right to eliminate any competitor who, in their opinion, 

places him/herself or others in any danger or who fails to observe the rules in this 

schedule 

17. Horses who are not competing are not allowed on the show ground without 

prior permission from the show secretary 

18. STALLIONS AND COLTS must be shown in a suitable bit and bridle with a 

stallion disc. Stallions/colts must not be led or ridden by a junior (under 18 

years old). 

19. The club field will be opened one hour before the first class on show days and 

may be locked as soon as ½ hour after the last class finishes

HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY 

1. This Health and Safety Policy applies to all events run by the Elstead Riding Club 

2. The organiser of each event has the overall responsibility for health and safety 

3. All events are organised in accordance with health and safety legislation as 

applicable. All who have to any extent control of premises or site at the event are 

responsible for ensuring that: 

a] everything reasonably practicable is done to ensure the health and safety and welfare 

of those attending the event; 

b] they conduct themselves so that they do not put themselves or anyone else at risk; 

c] access to and from the site is safe 

4. Those referred to in paragraph 3 above include all officials of the event and members 

of the Committee 

5. All individuals attending an event have a responsibility for their own safety and must 

act in such a way that others are not put at risk by their actions 

6. Emergencies 

a] First aid cover is provided on site at all open events. Anyone requiring medical 

attention should report or be reported to the Secretary's office; 

b] Emergency services must have access to all parts of the event site at all times and 

members of the public must not park vehicles so as to obstruct access; 

c] In the case of an emergency, members of the public should contact the nearest 

official. If emergency services are required, members of the public should report 

immediately to the Secretary's office 

7. Horses can easily be frightened and can be dangerous. Members of the public are 

requested to keep clear from horse areas and to avoid behaviour which might alarm 

horses

DIRECTIONS TO THE ERC CLUB FIELD 

From A3 at Milford take the B3001 to Elstead/Farnham. After passing the Elstead village 

green, go over a bridge and take the second turning on the right into Seale Road. 

If travelling from north of Guildford, please note that while it is possible to reach 

the Club Field from the Seale exit off the A31 (Hog's Back), the lanes are narrow 

and winding. We recommend that you stay on the A3 until Milford and take the 

B3001 as described above. 

From A31 Farnham bypass (travelling south-west towards Winchester/Alton) turn left at 

the first set of traffic lights to Hindhead (A287), Frensham & Farnham Station. Pass over 

the level crossing and take the left fork to Godalming (B3001). Seale Road is 

approximately four miles from Farnham and next left after passing The Donkey Pub 

(which is off to the right at the foot of a steep hill). 

If travelling north-east on the Farnham by-pass, carry on past the traffic lights to the 

Shepherd and Flock roundabout and return to traffic lights to turn for Elstead/Milford. 

Alternatively, follow the A31 at the Shepherd and Flock roundabout towards Guildford 

and after 400 yards take the Runfold exit. At top of slip road, bear right (over bridge 

crossing A31). At T-junction, turn right and then take next left (Crooksbury Road). At T- 

junction at end of Crooksbury Road, turn left onto the B3001. Seale Road is the next 

turning on the left (past The Donkey Pub). 

The Club Field is on the left, approximately one mile up Seale Road.
