WELCOME<br />

Welcome to the <strong>Elstead</strong> <strong>Riding</strong> <strong>Club</strong> (ERC) <strong>Events</strong> <strong>Schedule</strong> for <strong>2011</strong>. The events listed<br />

in this schedule are open to non-members, however, if you would like to join ERC we are<br />

always pleased to welcome new members. Our members benefit from a variety of<br />

instruction at our club field and also special members only competitions. We also enter<br />

teams and organise social and fun events.<br />

• THERE IS NO WATER SUPPLY AT THE FIELD<br />

• HATS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHEN MOUNTED AND SHOULD BE<br />

TO THE MINIMUM STANDARD WITH HARNESS PROPERLY ADJUSTED AND<br />

FASTENED. The minimum standard includes hats marked EN1384 or PAS015,<br />

ASTM F1163, BSEN14572:2005 or SEI, American standard SNELL E2001,<br />

ASTM95, SNZ3838 1998.<br />

CONDITIONS OF MEMBERSHIP<br />

1. All members are governed by the <strong>Club</strong>'s Constitution, which is sent to all new<br />

members.<br />

2. Membership is accepted at the discretion of the Committee.<br />

3. It is hoped that all members will help at a minimum of two events per year.<br />

Where junior members are too young to help, their parents will be asked to help in their<br />

place. If there is a specific type of event at which you would prefer to help, please specify:<br />

4. Members should be correctly turned out at all events. MUST wear a hard hat to at<br />

least the minimum standard, with a harness properly adjusted and fastened. Hats marked<br />

RULES AND REGULATIONS<br />

1. All events will be run in accordance with The British <strong>Riding</strong> <strong>Club</strong> Rule Book<br />

2. The decision of the Judge is final<br />

3. Any objection must be made in writing within 30 minutes of the incident, accompanied<br />

by a deposit of £20 which will be refunded if the objection is sustained<br />

4. Neither the organisers nor the Hampton Estate accept liability for any claims in<br />

respect of injury or damage to any person, animal or property, however caused<br />

5. The organisers reserve the right to amend the schedule as necessary<br />

6. The organisers reserve the right to reject or cancel any entry made by any person or<br />

cancel any class (refunding any fees paid less £2 per competitor to cover<br />

administrative expenses)<br />

7. All entry fees must accompany entry forms<br />

8. No entries will be refunded without a Vet or Doctor's Certificate<br />

9. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times whilst in the <strong>Club</strong> Field<br />

10. Hats must be worn at all times when mounted. MUST wear a hard hat to at least the<br />

minimum standard, with a harness properly adjusted and fastened. Hats marked<br />

EN1384, PASO15:1998, ASTM F1163, BSEN14572:2005 or SEI. American standard<br />

SNELL E2001, ASTM 95, SNZ3838 1998. Skullcap hats must be worn with a silk.<br />

Such headgear must be worn with harness properly adjusted and fastened. Failure to<br />

do so will incur elimination<br />

11. All competitors must wear the correct riding clothes whilst competing and exercising at<br />

competitions<br />

12. Stewards' instructions must be followed<br />

13. Misuse of whips or spurs will incur elimination. Blatant use of bad language may result<br />

in the competitor being eliminated and/or barred from further competitions<br />

14. Children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult<br />

15. Horses must be kept to a walk unless in the warm-up or competition arenas<br />

16. The organisers reserve the right to eliminate any competitor who, in their opinion,<br />

places him/herself or others in any danger or who fails to observe the rules in this<br />

schedule<br />

17. Horses who are not competing are not allowed on the show ground without<br />

prior permission from the show secretary<br />

18. STALLIONS AND COLTS must be shown in a suitable bit and bridle with a<br />

stallion disc. Stallions/colts must not be led or ridden by a junior (under 18<br />

years old).<br />

19. The club field will be opened one hour before the first class on show days and<br />

may be locked as soon as ½ hour after the last class finishes


HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY<br />

1. This Health and Safety Policy applies to all events run by the <strong>Elstead</strong> <strong>Riding</strong> <strong>Club</strong><br />

2. The organiser of each event has the overall responsibility for health and safety<br />

3. All events are organised in accordance with health and safety legislation as<br />

applicable. All who have to any extent control of premises or site at the event are<br />

responsible for ensuring that:<br />

a] everything reasonably practicable is done to ensure the health and safety and welfare<br />

of those attending the event;<br />

b] they conduct themselves so that they do not put themselves or anyone else at risk;<br />

c] access to and from the site is safe<br />

4. Those referred to in paragraph 3 above include all officials of the event and members<br />

of the Committee<br />

5. All individuals attending an event have a responsibility for their own safety and must<br />

act in such a way that others are not put at risk by their actions<br />

6. Emergencies<br />

a] First aid cover is provided on site at all open events. Anyone requiring medical<br />

attention should report or be reported to the Secretary's office;<br />

b] Emergency services must have access to all parts of the event site at all times and<br />

members of the public must not park vehicles so as to obstruct access;<br />

c] In the case of an emergency, members of the public should contact the nearest<br />

official. If emergency services are required, members of the public should report<br />

immediately to the Secretary's office<br />

7. Horses can easily be frightened and can be dangerous. Members of the public are<br />

requested to keep clear from horse areas and to avoid behaviour which might alarm<br />

horses


DIRECTIONS TO THE ERC CLUB FIELD<br />

From A3 at Milford take the B3001 to <strong>Elstead</strong>/Farnham. After passing the <strong>Elstead</strong> village<br />

green, go over a bridge and take the second turning on the right into Seale Road.<br />

If travelling from north of Guildford, please note that while it is possible to reach<br />

the <strong>Club</strong> Field from the Seale exit off the A31 (Hog's Back), the lanes are narrow<br />

and winding. We recommend that you stay on the A3 until Milford and take the<br />

B3001 as described above.<br />

From A31 Farnham bypass (travelling south-west towards Winchester/Alton) turn left at<br />

the first set of traffic lights to Hindhead (A287), Frensham & Farnham Station. Pass over<br />

the level crossing and take the left fork to Godalming (B3001). Seale Road is<br />

approximately four miles from Farnham and next left after passing The Donkey Pub<br />

(which is off to the right at the foot of a steep hill).<br />

If travelling north-east on the Farnham by-pass, carry on past the traffic lights to the<br />

Shepherd and Flock roundabout and return to traffic lights to turn for <strong>Elstead</strong>/Milford.<br />

Alternatively, follow the A31 at the Shepherd and Flock roundabout towards Guildford<br />

and after 400 yards take the Runfold exit. At top of slip road, bear right (over bridge<br />

crossing A31). At T-junction, turn right and then take next left (Crooksbury Road). At T-<br />

junction at end of Crooksbury Road, turn left onto the B3001. Seale Road is the next<br />

turning on the left (past The Donkey Pub).<br />

The <strong>Club</strong> Field is on the left, approximately one mile up Seale Road.<br />
