Kangaroo Courts?
11
Governments, however, continue to pretend that there is no conflict between Canadians’
traditional, and constitutionally enshrined, freedoms and the new “human rights” created
by legislation. But the large number of court cases dealing with precisely this conflict
shows that governments are wrong. A conflict exists, and a choice must be made.
Further, Canada’s federal and provincial governments also have a choice as to whether to
retain or remove the sections of human rights codes which restrict freedom of speech.
Nothing stops a government from removing these sections from the human rights code
while retaining legislative provisions that limit discrimination in employment,
accommodation and services.
The cases which follow in Kangaroo Courts? expose the conflict between the new human
rights and Canadians’ traditional freedoms.
