Principles of Clinical Practice 2 (PCP2):
Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise (mini-CEX)
You will undertake a minimum of six Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercises to a satisfactory standard during the semester
(two each in Medicine, Surgery/Anaesthetics and Ambulatory/Emergency Rotating Terms). Of course, you may present
more than six to your clinical teachers, but you are only required to hand in six, of which the best four will contribute
20% to your final PCP2 mark.
The Exercises will be in the form of an observed clinical encounter with a patient. Not all of the seven areas of
assessment listed on the form will be assessed in every encounter. However, at least 4 of the 7 areas must be graded to
qualify as a complete mini-CEX for the purposes of assessement
It will be your responsibility to organize these exercises with appropriate clinical assessors, either at your clinical school
or at a site connected with your Ambulatory Term. An example of the assessment form is provided on the following
page. Completed forms should be handed in to the Clinical School Office.
