<strong>MYP</strong> 2 <strong>Physical</strong> <strong>Education</strong> incorporates five disciplines of <strong>Physical</strong> <strong>Education</strong>. Personal<br />

Engagement/Participation & Social Skills, Performance, Use of Knowledge and Movement<br />

Composition. Students will be encouraged to work cooperatively and productively with<br />

partners and in small groups. Our emphasis is on the students’ participation rather than skill<br />

level. <strong>Le</strong> <strong>Jardin</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> strives to help students develop as responsible, lifelong learners<br />

who will enjoy participating in physical activities for a lifetime.<br />

On Going Fitness Unit: Fitness<br />

Unit Dates: Aug - Dec<br />

Unit Question: Does identifying and strengthening my weaknesses make me more fit?<br />

-establish a baseline for their current fitness level<br />

-understand the various components of their physical fitness<br />

- strive to improve all aspects of their physical fitness through a variety of exercise<br />

methods, swimming and games<br />

Unit 1: Flag Football<br />

Unit Dates: Mid Aug - Late Sept<br />

Unit Question: What is fair anyway?<br />

-demonstrate throwing, catching, snapping, handing-off and offensive and defensive<br />

techniques<br />

- be able to participate in a game of flag football using the appropriate rules and<br />

procedures<br />

-referee a game of flag football<br />

Unit 2: Basketball<br />

Unit Question: What does sharing look like?<br />

-demonstrate the passing, shooting, and defensive skills used in Basketball<br />

-use rules necessary to play a game of Basketball properly<br />

-communicate, move and share the Basketball effectively and understand the<br />

importance of doing so<br />

Unit 3: Hockey<br />

-demonstrate the puck-handling, passing and shooting skills needed to participate in<br />

a game of hockey<br />

-use rules necessary to play a game of hockey<br />

-understand and use tactics and strategies at appropriate times during a game<br />

-play a round of golf on our “golf course” using official rules, scoring, and etiquette<br />

-understand the importance of being principled and acting responsibly while playing<br />

golf<br />

Unit 5: Water Polo<br />

Unit Dates: Early Jan – Mid-Mar<br />

-demonstrate the swimming, ball skills and defensive skills needed to participate in a<br />

game of water polo.<br />

-use rules necessary to play a game of water polo<br />

-understand different offensive and defensive schemes used in the game of water<br />

polo.<br />

-understand the important role training plays in water polo<br />

Unit 6: Volleyball<br />

Unit Dates: Mid-Mar - Late Apr<br />

-demonstrate proper passing, setting, serving, hitting and blocking skills<br />

-use rules necessary to play a game of volleyball<br />

-understand and use communication skills necessary to play volleyball<br />

Unit 7: Tennis<br />

Unit Dates: Late Apr-Late May<br />

-demonstrate proper forehand, backhand, volley shot, drop shot, lob shot and<br />

serving skills<br />

-use rules necessary to play a game of singles and doubles tennis<br />

-uses tactics and strategies that allow them to adapt to situations and think critically<br />
