French journalist, essayist, and historian, Laure
Adler is the author of 30 books, among them, the
much talked about biographies Marguerite Duras
(Gallimard, 1998) and Françoise (Grasset, 2011,
about Françoise Giroux). Her Manifeste féministe was
recently published by the Editions Autrement
(2011).
After completing her thesis on the history of 19th
century feminism, Adler obtained her first position
at the French national radio France Culture.
Later, in 1989, she was appointed Cultural Counselor
to François Mitterrand. In 1993, she embarked on a
career in television with French network, France 2,
where she produced and directed the program 'Le
Cercle de minuit' for 4 years.
In January 1999, she was offered the coveted post of
Director at France Culture, a position she occupied
until August 2005.
She has collaborated with a number of French
publishers including Payot, Denoël, Plon, and P.U.F. More recently at Grasset, she was responsible
for essay publications. From 2005-2006, she also briefly took over the direction of the Documents
and Literatures sector of the Editions Seuil.
She currently hosts three radio programs Studio Théâtre (France Inter), the literary show Tropismes
(France ô) and Hors-Champs (France Culture). She is a member of the steering committee of the En
Temps Réel think tank, a board member of the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris and of the Université
d'Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse. She also co-presents the show Le Cercle Littéraire de la BNF with
Bruno Racine.

Arguing that men shouldn’t be excluded from the feminist struggle,
Laure Adler brings them into the debate with her manifesto.
Throughout history, one finds examples of men fighting alongside
women for the right to vote, to education, for emancipation, for
political, sexual and economic equality, for gender parity in
politics. In her Feminist Manifesto Adler includes essays by male
philosophers, writers, lawyers, stylists, politicians, doctors, artists
and more. Women have inspired these men (fathers, sons or
lovers) and have fed their writings and artistic creations.
The book features texts by Pierre Michon, Maurice Godelier,
Claude Garache, Edgar Morin, Pap Ndiaye, Stéphane Hessel, Lionel
Jospin, Jacques Diouf, René Frydman, Christian Lacroix, Olivier Py,
