Dr. Daniel D. Cor1 ‘24 died August<br />

30, 1972. A minister for nearly 40 years,<br />

he served Ohio E.U.B. churches in<br />

Fostoria, Toledo, and Woodville, and<br />

for three years was Conference Superintendent<br />

for the Ohio Sandusky Conference<br />

<strong>of</strong> the United Methodist Ch’ururch.<br />

Also a member <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Thustees<br />

<strong>of</strong> Otterbein Home, ‘Lebanon, Ohio,<br />

Dr. Cor1 received his B.D. degree from<br />

Bonebrake Seminary in 1929 and his<br />

D.D. degree from Otterbein College in<br />

1961.<br />

belsie M. Farmer ‘63 died December<br />

4, 1972, in Community Hospital, Indi<br />

anapolis, at the age <strong>of</strong> 43. A native o€<br />

Russell Springs, Ky., Mrs. Farmer<br />

taugh’t at Schools 18 and 19 in Indianap-<br />

olis, wihere she lived for seventeen<br />

years. Survivors include her husband<br />

J. C., daughter Kathy, son Timothy,<br />

and mother Mrs. Flora Popplewell.<br />

James Kantarze, part-time JCC in-<br />

structor <strong>of</strong> piano, died December 18,<br />

1972. A native <strong>of</strong> Youngstown, Ohio,<br />

Mr. Kantarze ‘received his mastmer’s<br />

degree from Jordan College <strong>of</strong> Music,<br />

Butler <strong>University</strong>, Indianapolis. Before<br />

joining the ICC Music Department, he<br />

taught music at Shortridge and Nonth-<br />

west High Schools hare in the city.<br />

Throughout five years <strong>of</strong> teaching at<br />

IOC, Mr. Kantarze had many devoted<br />

Evening Division Releases Statistics<br />

Recent statistics released by the EV-<br />

ening Division suggest that ICC eon-<br />

tinues to afttract a varied moss-section<br />

<strong>of</strong> the community to its adult evening<br />

program in which 12% undergraduak<br />

students participated this past fdl. Of<br />

this figure, 1150 students enyolled for<br />

credit, and 74 audited courses.<br />

The evening students ranged in age<br />

from 17 to 71, with an average age<br />

<strong>of</strong> 29.9 years. Of the total student body,<br />

57 percent were men, and 42 percenlt<br />

were women. Two-thirds <strong>of</strong> the students<br />

were married.<br />

A little more than one-thtrd <strong>of</strong> those<br />

classified as juniors and seniors have<br />

as their objectives B.S. degrees in (busi-<br />

ness administration. Evening statistics<br />

also indicate that programs in element-<br />

ary education and biology are quite<br />

popular among adult students who at-<br />

tend classes each evening, Monday<br />

Nursing Program<br />

In Memoriam Receives Gift<br />

Church, Indianapolis.<br />

Mrs. Harriette (Gillingham ’29) Mc-<br />

Ahren died June 22, 1972, at the age<br />

<strong>of</strong> 65. Mrs. Mdhren was living at<br />

Otterkin Home in Lebanon, Ohio.<br />

Rev. Dariw Pellett ‘18 died Odober<br />

19, 1972, at the age <strong>of</strong> 82. He was a<br />

resident <strong>of</strong> Otterbein Home, Lebanon,<br />

Ohio.<br />

Xena (Martin ‘25) McCune died early<br />

in November, 1972, at the Flint, Mich-<br />

igan Osteopathic Hospital, having been<br />

injured in an automobile accident six<br />

weeks prior to her death. Mrs. McCune<br />

received her B.S. degme from Western<br />

Reserve <strong>University</strong>, Cleveland, Ohio.<br />

For 20 years before her retirement in<br />

1966, she taught ceramics and art at<br />

the Jane Addams Vocational High<br />

School for Girls in Cleveland. In 1966<br />

Mrs. McCune was awarded the “Cita-<br />

tion <strong>of</strong> the Year” from the Mayor <strong>of</strong><br />

Cleveland, the Board <strong>of</strong> Education, and<br />

various service organizations for her<br />

contribution to the iClewland schools.<br />

Survivors include her husband Charles<br />

E. McCune ‘32, daughter Mary Alice,<br />

and a sister.<br />

The Evening Division began its<br />

spring semester the week <strong>of</strong> January<br />

8. The new Indiana Central Plan, per-<br />

mitting shorter sessions with more<br />

enrollment opportunities , is pr wing<br />

extremely popular. Evening Division<br />

enrollments have set a spring high for<br />

the 1970’s, with 125 more students<br />

participating than last spring.<br />

Two programs in particular contri-<br />

buted to the increase in enrollments.<br />

The American Institute <strong>of</strong> Banking<br />

program, now in its fourth year, had<br />

an increase <strong>of</strong> 65 students this spring.<br />

The college’s new Criminal Justice<br />

program, begun this past fall, now<br />

has 80 students enrolled m classes in<br />

police administration and corrections.<br />

It is expected that total Evening<br />

Division enrollments for the whole year<br />

will be up at least 5% over last year.<br />

The Helene Fumld Health Trust <strong>of</strong><br />

Trenton, New Jersey, has awarded<br />

Indiana Central College a grant <strong>of</strong> $25,-<br />

OOO to be used in its expanding pro-<br />

gram in nursing. The announcement<br />

<strong>of</strong> the gift was made early in January<br />

by Dr. Gene E. Ssase.<br />

In announcing the gift, President<br />

Sease indicated that the Fuld grant<br />

woluld be used to provide an audio-<br />

tutoriad laboratory in the college’s<br />

new nursing education facility. The<br />

new $1,250,000 Zerfas Wing, which has<br />

been added to Lilly Hall, was used for<br />

the first time January 8, the beginning<br />

<strong>of</strong> the new semester. A formal opening<br />

and dedication <strong>of</strong> the building is being<br />

planned for early April.<br />

The Helene Fuld Audio-Tutorial Lab-<br />

oratory contains 30 individual study<br />

units, each <strong>of</strong> which is equipped with<br />

a small projector by which nursing<br />

students can study various medical,<br />

surgical, and nursing procedures. By<br />

receipt <strong>of</strong> this gift, Indiana Central Col-<br />

lege becomes one <strong>of</strong> a group <strong>of</strong> schools<br />

<strong>of</strong> nursing which have been helped by<br />

the Fuld Trust. These schools share<br />

audio-visual films, filmstrips, and video<br />

tapes which are distributed from a<br />

center at Winston-Salem. Over a dozen<br />

schools in Texas, Kansas, Norrth Da-<br />

kota, California, and on ‘the East Coast<br />

are now affiliated with the Fuld pro-<br />

gmam.<br />

The grants are made available<br />

through the Marine Midland Bank <strong>of</strong><br />

New York by a gift <strong>of</strong> the late Dr.<br />

Leonhard Felix Fuld, in memory <strong>of</strong> his<br />

mother, Helene Fuld. Reflecting Dr.<br />

Fuld’s strong interest in the training<br />

and preparation <strong>of</strong> bedside nurses, such<br />

grants must be used exclusively for the<br />

health, education, and welfare <strong>of</strong> stu-<br />

dent nurses.<br />

The Fuld grant and the construction<br />

cf the Helene Fuld Audio-Tutorial Lab-<br />

oratory provide for the expansion <strong>of</strong><br />

the program already initiated at In-<br />

diana Central using video tapes and<br />

will serve the nearly 250 students en-<br />

roIled in nursing. The audio-tutorial<br />

laboratory is located on the ground<br />

floor <strong>of</strong> the new nursing facility.
